Taxi Operator

About:
Here at Devon Express Travel we are a busy taxi service, which has a steadily increasing customer base. We are currently looking for a Telephonist/Dispatcher who will work in the main office, based at the bus station in Estover, Airport Business Centre, Plymouth, on a part-time or full-time basis.

Main Duties:

- You will be taking bookings from customers, both regular and new, via the phone.
- You will need to send these jobs out to drivers, taking into account where your current drivers are and where the jobs are based so that you can manage the drivers in an efficient and effective manner.
- Manage the number of bookings you take at certain times, being aware of the list of jobs currently booked, and expected busy periods such as school-run times and rush hour.
- Deal with complaints and issues from customers, with an understanding demeanour and willingness to try and solve the issue. Sometimes this is not possible, and so you will need to have good negotiation skills to ensure the best outcome for both you and the customer.
- You must also do your part in keeping the office space tidy and clean, which will include sanitizing the work area regularly, washing up cups/plates/cutlery you have used, sweeping and emptying the bin.

- Excellent communications skills - we have a varied clientele each with different needs, you need to be able to deal with many different types of people.
- Kind and understanding demeanour, with the ability to be firm with a difficult customer.
- Professional and conscientious - you will be a representative of Delta Cars and must behave professionally at all times. You must also take pride in your work, ensuring that you perform your duties to the best at your abilities, especially when unsupervised.
- Good problem-solving skills - in this job things are not always so simple, and you will be faced with problems that you need to fix. A good mindset and attitude is a must for this, as you will be working on your own at times and be the sole person responsible. Issues you may face could be with timings of customer bookings, managing late drivers due to traffic build up etc.
- Knowledge of the local area - for a dispatcher, understanding the local area is a must, as you will be relying on this skill to perform your job to the expected standard throughout all of your shifts. Certain things will come as you gain experience, but a solid geographical understanding will act as a foundation when you begin work in this role.

Experience not required, but it represents an advantage
- Previous experience working within a busy environment is an advantage
- Previous experience in a customer service-based role is an advantage
- Experience using complex computer software, preferably experience with dispatching software.
