Chorley, United Kingdom Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust Full time

There is an opportunity to join a small GI Physiology team based at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals. This could be an excellent opportunity for a trained physiologist in another area who wants to try something new and work independently on a part-time basis. Are you a nurse who wants to try something different? Do you want to work week-day hours and have your own case load?

**Applications are invited from individuals who have**:
Experience of working in a healthcare or science-based role.

Computer literacy.

Good interpersonal skills and a real interest in improving the quality of life of the patients.

You will assist in the management, provision, and development of the existing lower GI physiology service in collaboration with the existing staff.
The main duties will be provision of anorectal physiology studies and the biofeedback service. This is to include triage and prioritisation of the lower GI referrals, performing and reporting the procedures and offering patients a holistic therapy experience if they attend for biofeedback.
There may be a progression to include percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation therapy at a later date.

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.

If training is necessary, you will spend the first 4-6 months working alongside the current GI physiologist, learning the practicalities of performing, analysing and reporting the procedures.
A large part of the role is spending time tailoring a treatment plan for patients with bowel issues, including discussion of medications, pelvic floor exercises and dietary modifications, use of aids such as anal inserts and referral to the wider community for treatments such as trans-anal irrigation.

After this time, you will be working independently, and have begun the academic part of the training program which is to study via distance learning for a masters level certificate in lower GI physiology. This is a 9-month course run by Newcastle University.
At the end of a 3 year period (including the initial training) you will be able to register as an Accredited Scientific Practitioner in lower GI physiology.
