_There is an estimated 5000 Roma living in Luton. Roma women make up more than half of the total population of Roma. They are vulnerable and face many challenges in their every day life including multiple discrimination. Many Roma women lack English speaking, good literacy and digital skills and most of them have no English-speaking friends. These subsequently affect their mental health and make them feel socially isolated._
- Luton Roma Trust is looking for a Roma Woman Champion to work very closely with the Roma women making sure that they have access to information and tools, which will help them, be successful. This is a position, which requires someone with a vision and motivation to succeed. The person selected will work under the supervision of the Manager._
- **The role**:_
- You will:_
- Carry out a needs assessment of the Roma women in Luton
- Organize workshops centered on different topics with Roma women on the importance of early screening, eating habits, the importance of physical exercise etc.
- Create a club for Roma women where they could come and meet other women, share their experiences, make connections.
- Help Roma women access different services aimed at their mental health and well-being including vaccination against Covid-19
- Motivate Roma women to access further education or courses aimed at enhancing their skills and especially English language skills
- Visit Roma women in their homes and build up a close relationship with them
- Promote community cohesion and help mediate community conflict, if needed
- Attend meetings, conferences and events as required
- Undertake any other duties as are reasonably appropriate to the job.

**Essential Requirements**:

- Two years or more of work experience in a similar role
- Very good written and verbal communication skills in Romanian and English languages
- Computer literate
- High level of accuracy in all work with excellent attention to detail
- Excellent Time Management Skills
- Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and work effectively with a variety of people both inside and outside the charity
- Ability to Handle Confidential Information
- Team player with ability to build strong working relationships across the organisation
- Pro-active and striving to achieve excellence in her work
- Committed to human rights and to promoting equality
- Understands and respects Luton Roma Trust’s values including its Christian ethos
- Respectful towards the others with a professional attitude

**Desirable Requirements**:

- Knowledge of Romani language in addition to Romanian and English will be an advantage
- Reliable and honest
- Friendly with a nice personality
- An understanding of women human rights and the issues that Roma women face in Europe

**Pay and Conditions**
- The _Roma Woman Champion _will be offered a one and a half years contract (there is a six months probationary period). She will work 10 hours a week (Monday-Friday) or as agreed with the Manager in the first year and 15 hours a week in the second year. Extension of contract and increase in the number of hours is possible depending upon available funding.
- The rate of pay is £ 13.50/hour before tax (National Insurance tax is paid by Luton Roma Trust and there will be a statutory employee contribution of 4% towards pension).
- Paid holidays include 25 days calculated on a pro rata basis plus bank holidays.
- Reasonable expenses in connection with work will be paid

- The successful applicant will start work as soon as possible. Any offer of employment is dependent upon receipt of 2 satisfactory references (one from your most recent employer) and any other statutory checks including DBS.
