This lovely Pontefract Primary School is recruiting a highly motivated SEND Teaching Assistant to work on a 1:1 basis with a lovely girl in Upper Foundation.
This is a long-term role and the right applicant will be based in a well-established, co-educational Primary School close to the centre of Pontefract and easily accessible on public transport. The role offers the chance to support the child throughout theirPrimary Education and really make a difference to her school life. The child is bright and happy with no behavioural issues and needs support with communication and social aspects of school life alongside being supported to access the provision and stay ontask in the classroom.
This SEND Foundation Stage Teaching Assistant job is a long-term position with very good potential to become a permanent position.
- This role will be based inside and outside the classroom supporting a child with Autism on a 1:1 basis.
- Liaising with the class teacher and SENCO about individual education plans (IEPs) and implementing and reviewing agreed strategies.
- Developing effective communication with them alongside communicating their needs.
- Assisting the pupil in class, helping them to focus and stay on task.
- Assisting the pupil at lunch time and break time.
- Supporting the pupil in the classroom and around the school.
- Creating and building a calming and healthy relationship to instil trust.
- Providing a supportive, caring, and safe relationship with pupils and acting as a positive role model for them.
- Building and maintaining relationships with the wider family to encourage further learning and development at home.

The ideal SEN Teaching Assistant will be/have;
- Level 2 or higher childcare certificate.
- In depth knowledge of the curriculum from EYFS.
- Experience working with SEND children, with experience of working with KS1 children with Autism an advantage.
- Experience working on a 1:1 basis.
- A commitment to delivering high quality teaching and learning.
- Enthusiasm, energy and flexibility, high expectations and the ability to raise attainment and achievement.
- Strong interpersonal and organisational skills.
- The desire to form a trusting and lasting relationship with the pupil as ideally, you will support the pupil throughout her Primary Education.
