Building Surveyor

We're looking for an experienced Project Building Surveyor to join the Let Estate Management Team. You'll organise and manage conservation repair, maintenance and project works across large and varied portfolio primarily centred on the Kingston Lacy and Dorset portfolio, and on occasion support within Wiltshire too. The portfolio includes residential, commercial, and agricultural properties which are occupied by our tenants, as well as holiday cottages. There is also a fully equipped building yard at Kingston Lacy and a small direct labour team.
You’ll bring to the role a strong background in property maintenance and construction on sizeable property portfolios, ideally with a knowledge and good understanding of conservation of listed and traditional buildings, and associated building materials and maintenance techniques.
Your contractual place of work will be Kingston Lacy. Our hybrid working policy means you can balance office and home working with site visits and meetings at other National Trust places. We’ll talk about this in more detail at interview, but you should expect to be at a National Trust site for 40-60% of your working week. Due to the travel required for this position, you must hold a full driving license and have access to your own vehicle. Business mileage is claimable through expenses.
The role is available on a 3 year fixed term contract, offering a salary of £40,000.

Working within the Let Estate Buildings Team, you will be reporting to the Senior Building Surveyor. Your key geographical area will be Dorset including Kingston Lacy and Purbeck Estates.
Working mainly on traditional and historic buildings, and you will be pivotal in preparing our let estate for the future, managing maintenance and projects works to a budget of circa £300 to £500k; and ensure high levels of quality. The role offers an interesting variety of work, a good work-life balance and provides you with a real opportunity to make a real difference in conserving our historic buildings and helping us become more sustainable as we respond to the implications of climate change using up to date techniques and technologies.
What you'll be doing:In addition to managing reactive maintenance, repair and refurbishment projects across the portfolio, you will set up and deliver a programme of building condition surveys to inform the programme for future maintenance works, helping improve our planning and budgeting. Working collaboratively with the wider Estate Management Team you will help plan a rolling five year planned maintenance programme, to ensure we achieve the required standards of care, maintenance and compliance.

- Who we're looking formember of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), Architects Registration Board (ARB) or Chartered Institute of Buildings (CIOB) or extensive equivalent experience
- traditional building repair experience
- experience in leading projects from inception through to completion within a complex framework
- experience of undertaking surveys and inspections, diagnosing building defects and specifying appropriate remedial works to buildings, following best practice
- experience of cost estimating, and control would be a distinct advantage as would experience of working with databases and ‘dashboards’ as used by clients who are prioritising work over a large portfolio
- demonstrate a working knowledge of EPCs and MEES
