Wellbeing Mentor

Norfolk, United Kingdom Together for Mental Wellbeing Full time

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Wellbeing Mentor to join the Smokefree Norfolk team. This is an exciting new role working on a pilot programme focused on reducing smoking rates in people who have a Severe Mental Illness (SMI). This initiative aims to improve health and life-expectancy of this hard-to-reach cohort and in doing so reduce health inequalities and further the NHS's Long-Term Plan.

We are looking for highly a motivated and imaginative individual with excellent communication skills and the ability to engage creatively and effectively with this group, working with clinical and administrative colleagues across departments and external agencies and stakeholders.

The Long-Term Plan sets out the commitment to address health inequalities in people with SMI through the delivery of universal tobacco dependency services, including for those with SMI. People with SMI tend to be more dependent and heavier smokers, making it more challenging for this group to quit. Despite this higher need in people with SMI they tend to experience poorer access to effective treatment services that are tailored to their needs. One key driver of this is the lack of evidence indicating what good practice for people with SMI looks like.

Smokefree Norfolk and Together for Mental Well-being are working in partnership with Norfolk and Waveney ICB to provide a smoking cessation service for Adults with Serious Mental Illness in four pilot areas across Norfolk. The aim of the partnership is to offer additional support to people with an SMI who want to quit tobacco.

Key elements of this role will be to deliver a clinical tobacco cessation service to SMI clients and to support them on their journey to quit. In addition, develop networks and promote the service through public engagement, close working relationships with ECCH staff, health, social care, and voluntary services, ICBs, GPs and Pharmacies.

This is a fixed term position until March 2023. Full time and part time roles available.
