THE BUSINESS
Westray Recruitment Group are looking for an Extrusion Manager for our client based in Durham.
The purpose of the role is to ensure that the strategic and business objectives of the Company are implemented and targets achieved within Manufacturing. This includes the setting and monitoring of production targets, efficiencies, costs to ensure customerrequirements and standards are exceeded; to maintain and develop business growth in accordance with the overall business strategy. Develop an enthusiastic, motivated and flexible team, ensuring that Health & Safety, Quality, and best practice policies andprocedures are adhered to.
THE ROLE
Health & Safety:
Ensure all activities are performed in full compliance of Health & Safety in accordance with best practice and legal requirement.
Equipment, plant and facilities maintained in order that they operate safely to the correct quality and efficiency.
Report/liaise with HSE on any safety infringement where required.
To know the locations emergency exits and practice correct evacuation procedures.
Site processes optimised to minimise the impact to the environment.
Operational Performance
Strategy and Development - contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice manufacturing strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance.
Monitor and manage production KPI’s - including achieving the company’s on time delivery target and control all associated operational and manufacturing costs according to the prevailing annual budget forecast. Development of the balanced scorecard and visualmanagement for the site, embracing established QCDISME indicators. Identify performance variances and develop action plans to bring these back into control.
Financial Management -Monitoring of the Production costs and identifying opportunities to reduce the sources of waste and cost in the operations environment. Support the GM with the visual management of operational costs and assist the communication of thisdata to all levels of the business. Manage and monitor budget ensuring best value in all expenditure; ensure weekly, monthly and quarterly assessments and forecasts of organisation’s operational goals are being achieved.
Develop and implement operational improvements - ensure non-value-added activity is reduced in all manufacturing processes by using lean/5S tools and techniques; manage change working with HR to meet current business requirements; implement manufacturing improvementprocesses and systems to reduce inventory, increase throughput and minimise cost.
Production - ensure department is meeting customer requirements and maintaining the orderly and productive operation of planned activities, through the operatives in both areas.
Production control - Liaise with planning to ensure potential obstacles to the achievement of the production plan are identified and action plans are implemented to deliver the schedule. Monitor and review production progress against targets to ensure ontime delivery.
Developing a high-performance workforce - promoting and upholding company performance standards and ideology (on time delivery, quality, lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, housekeeping & work ethic); operational excellence (right first time, high productivity,efficiency, effectiveness, minimum waste/maximise value).
Communication - ensure managers/staff and workforce are communicated to accurately and effectively with all necessary information on a regular basis. Liaise with Engineering, design studio and customer service on a daily basis.
HR - liaise with HR on all aspects of workplace issues affecting current or potential employees, these include; terms and conditions of employment, manpower costs, recruitment, training & development, performance management, discipline & grievance and attendancemanagement.
Quality/Hygiene - overall responsibility for working to the requirements of the company’s Quality Policy and BRC procedures and discuss any improvements; to ensure all aspects of company hygiene standards and communicated and adhered too. Lead the adoptionof structured Root-cause-analysis methodologies, ensuring your team are proactive in coaching and getting ‘it right first time’.
Security - responsible for the overall security within your area.
THE PERSON
Good verbal communication and listening skills, all communication both written and verbal must be in English.
Ability to use own initiative to work as an individual or as part of a team unsupervised.
Ability to work well in a fast-paced environment to meet team expectations.
Ability to operate computer equipment for data purposes.
Ability to use a variety of measuring equipment.
A methodical approach to systems and understanding of the importance of standards and established/agreed systems of work.
Able to make decisions based on experience, have confidence to act and make changes within given boundaries.
Good personal organisation under pressure from time, internal and external customers.
Time management skills.
