**The Senior Research Governance Officer**: Data and Artificial Intelligence is a senior member of the governance and operations function, sitting within the Joint Clinical Research & Development Core Services. The purpose of the role is to provide expert advice for an expanding portfolio data-driven and artificial intelligence research (including research databases). This portfolio will be conducted by The Royal Marsden and the Institute of Cancer Research, frequently involving partnerships with industry and academia.
- Lead on the governance, coordination and approval of data-driven and artificial intelligence research throughout the life course of the study. Review and understand highly complex research protocols and assess these for compliance to the relevant regulations.
- Liaise regularly with staff across all levels of the organisation, providing guidance and advice to ensure compliance with the regulatory requirements including the UK Policy Framework for Health and Social Care, UK General Data Protection Regulation and Data Protection Act, and Medical Devices Regulations.
- Be responsible for improving processes and procedures for data-driven and artificial intelligence research, recommending and leading system change and development, and sitting on relevant committees.
- Continually develop own knowledge of this developing field and continually upskill the research community to raise the general level of expertise.
- Further expand the scope and capability of the institutions to provide a joined-up and future-oriented quality service for research.

- Build strong relationships with Chief Investigators, Principal Investigators, and other research staff to identify their needs in meeting all the responsibilities imposed by governance and regulatory frameworks.
- Understand and interpret highly complex information and analytical requirements, assess the purpose for which outputs are required and support, develop and deliver appropriate solutions.
- Initiate, develop and lead an assessment of the impact of data-driven and artificial intelligence research on The Royal Marsden and the ICR. This involves but is not limited to ensuring that all research staff are appropriately trained/qualified, and that the proposed dataset and ICT/IG security arrangements are suitable for the proposed research.
- Initiate, and develop strong and positive working partnerships with key stakeholders across the clinical research directorate.
- Continually review the systems and processes for data-driven and artificial intelligence research to ensure they remain fit for purpose and comply with best practice.
- Keep abreast with any updates to legislation on data-driven and artificial intelligence research.
