**Job summary**:

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an inspirational and motivated midwife to work within the Infant Feeding Team. The post holder will be a qualified midwife who will work clinically within our maternity services to support the needs of women and families with their infant feeding journey.

The post holder will support the Infant Feeding Lead to co-ordinate, implement and review and develop strategies to ensure health professionals are adequately trained in breastfeeding management, to support mother's feeding decision and increase breastfeeding rates within the Trust so as to ensure delivery of Key Performance Indicators. To support the Infant Feeding Lead Midwife in obtaining full Baby Friendly Accreditation and assist in audit and training.

The post holder will be required to use advanced communication skills to provide verbal and written information to patients in a timely manner that is specific to their individual needs. Give support to women to help them to overcome physical and psychological reactions on their journey to successful breastfeeding and support management of a breastfeeding service ranging from antenatal education to postnatal follow up of complex feeding issues.

**Main duties, tasks & skills required**:
The main duties in the role include ensuring infant-feeding practice is in keeping with evidence based best practice and is appropriate for each individual woman for whom care is provided and all women receive information to allow them to choose their method of feeding.

To demonstrate clinical competencies in breastfeeding and be responsible for providing training in this discipline and to provide evidence based advice and professional support by demonstrating a commitment to Infant Feeding.

To identify the need for consultation and collaboration with other members of the health care team. Make referrals as necessary.

To participate in the development and implementation of policies, procedures and standards for midwifery practice and assist in service development across the Trust in respect of breastfeeding and returning to work and Improving Working Lives document.

To undertake clinical audit using specific audit tools and then to evaluate and develop breast feeding practice within maternity services and develop liaisons between Midwives, Paediatricians and Special Care Baby Unit staff to protect breastfeeding of babies in special circumstances. Be called upon to give expert opinion in highly complex situations.

To participate in supporting the Lead Midwife in the evaluation of care through audit, evaluation and peer review.

**Qualifications**:
**Essential**:

- Registered Midwife 3 years or above
- Education to Diploma
- Working towards Degree Level or above
- UNICEF Breastfeeding 3 - day management course
- ENB997 or equivalent
- Teaching and assessing qualification
- Understanding of Research and Development process

**Desirable**:

- International Board Certified Lactation Consultant Certificate, or to work towards qualification

**Experience**:
**Essential**:

- Minimum 3 years Clinical Midwifery Practice
- Experience of teaching and training
- Be able to demonstrate Clinical expertise in the Management of Breastfeeding concerns
