The Role: To support the delivery of transportation projects across a variety of disciplines and for a range of both public and private sector clients. The main purpose of this role will be to support the Portfolio Director (North East) by taking a lead role on Highways Design projects and Project Management supporting generally across other drainage, flood alleviation and general Civils and projects from Feasibility through to Implementation Stages and close out.

We are seeking a highly motivated individual who will play a lead role in developing and growing our local Highway Design capabilities to successfully deliver our exciting forward programme of Infrastructure Projects.

As a Senior member of the team, you will lead on the delivery of local, regional, and national scheme design in addition you can expect to:

- As a senior member of the team you will have supervisory or people management responsibility, with a particular emphasis on maximising the performance of those that work in your team.
- You will be responsible for an element of business unit performance e.g. sales targets, customer service levels.
- It is imperative you succeed in continued development of the Highways Design part of the business supported by the NE Portfolio Director and the Bid Manager.
- Section sustainability and growth of not only your team, but the wider portfolio offering across Highways, Structures, Rail and Project Management will be key.
- Will mentor, coach and develop individuals within the Section.
- Will implement the BMS requirements throughout all projects.
- Ensure scheme designs are fully conversant with company requirements and contribute to effective project management.
- Engaging with and developing good working relationships with multiple internal and external stakeholders, including Network Rail / local authorities / Tier 1 contractor’s clients and other disciplines
- Assist in the development of links with other areas of the Capita business to maximise Highway Engineering opportunities.
- Input to and preparation of bids and proposals
- Engage with internal Capita staff across Real Estate & Infrastructure to develop and maintain relationships in similar fields and across other services.
- Work efficiently and leading a team of professionals to contribute to ensuring that successful financial outcomes are achieved or exceeded for those projects worked on by the through sound business and financial understanding.
- Take a proactive approach to the reporting and mitigation of matters which present a risk to the achievement of successful delivery of projects.
- Becoming familiar and compliant with relevant Health, Safety and Welfare regulations and to promote Capita’s SHEW culture within your team

You will liaise with clients to ensure projects are delivered in the most timely and efficient manner possible.

**Responsibilities**:

- A degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent with over 5 years experience in a leading design role or HNC with over 10 years experience in a leading design role.
- Have experience of complying with Designers Duties under CDM
- Be experienced in working with Developers and Local/Water Authorities on Highway/Drainage adoption and approval processes.
- Carry out the Project Management role to lead on the successful delivery a range of projects. This will include responsibility for programming (using Microsoft Project), resource management and team building.
- Be experienced in overall highway/drainage design and detailing requirements.
- Be flexible to work across the full range of Civils Design areas and adopt an integrated approach with our Operations colleagues through Early Contractor Involvement during design and working together during the site works.
- Have a good working knowledge of DMRB and current drainage design standards and procedures.
- Have excellent working knowledge of NEC3 and NEC4 contract development and administration/delivery.
- Have good presentation and communication skills.
- Have a full UK driving licence
