**Starting Salary**:£23,620 with the opportunity to progress to £26,845 per annum - Pay increase pending
**Hours**: 37 per week

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Admissions and Transport team, working closely with schools and the wider team to deliver an effective and efficient co-ordinated school admission process and home to school transport service on behalf of Children's Services.

The role of the Admissions and Transport Officer is to act as the primary Hertfordshire County Council contact for admission to primary and secondary phase schools, for an allocated area or group of schools within the area.
Admissions and Transport Officers are expected to make decisions in accordance with published rules and policies, including but not limited to; deciding which children should be allocated places at a particular school and determining entitlement to free home-to-school transport.

Admissions and Transport Officers respond to correspondence on a broad range of topics, primarily admissions and transport queries which can include for example, explaining how complex admission rules have been applied, managing complex parental responsibility cases, or dealing with sensitive issues such as children and young people's medical or social difficulties.

This is a fast-paced environment, where you’ll need to be able to work under pressure and be extremely well organised, taking a pro-active approach to your workload. You’ll need to be a strong team player with an adaptable and flexible approach.

You’ll also need excellent written and verbal communication skills and be able to maintain attention to detail whilst also being able to deal with high volumes of work. You will also need to be confident, diplomatic, and able to remain calm in sensitive situations.

We’ll need you to:

- Have excellent written and verbal communication skills to support and advise parents/carers and to work with a wide variety of professionals and other agencies.
- Be confident, diplomatic and able to remain calm in sensitive situations (including discussing children’s disabilities or special needs) and when dealing with complex complaints.
- Be organised, methodical and able to work systematically and to tight statutory and/or corporate deadlines.
- Have excellent attention to detail and accuracy whilst also being able to deal with a high volume of work.
- Be able to manage and prioritise own workload, whilst being a strong team player with an adaptable and flexible approach.
