Wind Turbine Steersman/trailer Mate

Working within the wind turbine sector of the business, the appointment will be responsible for operating driving, loading, offloading and mobilising all types of hydraulic trailers.

The Role

This is a permanent and full-time role.

This is manual position and involves the use of semi-skilled equipment operation working in all Collett & Sons Depot yards, dockside and construction sites as required meeting the needs of the business.

Work of this class involves operating, driving, loading, offloading and mobilizing all types of hydraulic trailer. Assisting with configuration of trailer fleet, completing daily checks of all plant equipment in your care within the wind turbine sector of the business.

Occasionally, limited supervision may be exercised over temporary help participating in yard activities.

Typical Duties
- Ability to learn the storekeeping practices and procedures applicable to storage yard operations in depots and on dock side.
- Assistance with configuration of trailer fleet.
- Complete daily checks of all plant equipment in your care.
- Ability to use equipment such as electric generators, hoses, battery chargers, compressors, power pumps, lifting equipment, forklift trucks and miscellaneous hand tools.
- Ability to understand and execute oral and written instructions.
- Ability to maintain simple records.
- Sufficient physical strength and agility to perform the work of the class.
- Steer and operate specialist trailers involved in the transportation of wind turbine components.
- Escorting duties when required.
- Any other duties as required to ensure effective management of the business.

**Qualifications**:
The following requirements are preferred, but not necessarily essential:

- Full clean driving license (preferred).
- Drive, load/offload, mobilisation and operation of trailers, installation, rigging and general maintenance.
- Previous experience working with hydraulic and/or mechanical equipment (specifically in wind turbine transportation sector) would be of a great advantage.
- Experience with the use of hydraulic clamp trailers on windfarms.
- Fork lift truck/telehandler license preferred (training given if needed).
- Mechanical trade qualifications preferred but not essential.
Personal Qualities

The role requires the individual to have the following qualities:

- Experience with hydraulic modular trailers transporting abnormal and/or heavy haulage.
- Flexible and willing to learn.
- Experience working with hydraulic and/or mechanical equipment.
- Effective communicator at all levels.
- Excellent organisational ability.
- Excellent literacy and numeracy skills.
- This is a physically demanding job at times and so a good level of personal fitness and strength to carry out duties is required.
- They must be able to work as part of a team with colleagues but take responsibility for their work and represent the company in front of the client base.
- Must be available to work away from base at short notice for long and short periods of time, cope with unconventional working patterns as required.
- Additionally, evening overtime and additional weekend working is required as the needs of the business demands.
