- This newly created position will sit within the Rail Services business to drive health and safety performance across the three Rail Services businesses: Arriva Road Transport Services, a rail replacement provider, Arriva Traincare, a train maintenance specialist, and Grand Central, an open access Train Operating Company (TOC).

Act as Professional Head of Health and Safety, where necessary undertaking On Call duties

Lead and define the Rail Services Safety strategy and vision, ensuring consistency where possible across the three local businesses

Assist the Rail Services Directorate in all aspects of running the business to ensure delivery of all operational objectives. Including but not limited to analysis, performance monitoring, and continual improvement

Provide both strategic and operational HSEQ support to the senior management team

Assisting the Rail Services directorate with the strategic development and future growth of the department as required

Co-ordinate the structure for Health and Safety management throughout the company

Review serious incidents/accidents ensuring procedures have been followed and making any recommendations that would lead to improvements

Drive process improvement initiatives and help drive continuous improvement opportunities throughout the business

Ensure proper governance is in place to protect business assets and drive a safety performance culture

KPI production and analysis for the purposes of Arriva UK Trains and Group reporting as well as internal business purposes to drive performance

To lead and manage safety led projects such as but not limited to process improvement, safety management system changes, IOSH and NEBOSH training, Fire Warden, First Aid Train, Safety Management System compliance and safety reporting improvements

Ensure occupational health surveillance is carried out where required in the local businesses to comply with appropriate regulations. Work collaboratively with HR on the strategic Occupational Health programme for Rail Services

Attend Divisional Improvement Networks and any other meetings as required

Support the Rail Service businesses with Trade Union relationships in relation to HSEQ matters.

Liaise with colleagues in other areas of the country / business to ensure best practice and methods of working are being shared

Regular travel around the Arriva UK Trains network, including working at different locations on accordance with operational requirements

NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent, ideally Chartered Member of IOSH

A qualified health and safety professional with experience of driving safety performance

Business acumen and a proven track record of safety improvement.

Hardworking with the ability to work autonomously

The ability to analyse complex management information and transform into Excel analysis and PowerPoint presentations for analysis and action

Attention to detail and a drive to make improvements and drive safety performance

Strong focus on delivery to tight deadlines including coordinating a wide array of stakeholders

Practical experience working in a pressurised team environment with the ability to prioritise effectively

Excellent interpersonal skills and influencing skills at all levels of an organisation

Flexibility in managing varying workload and willingness to get the job done

Knowledge of Railway safety practice, procedures and legislation.

Experience in a senior safety role
