Responsibilities:

- Inspect, monitor record and report on the condition of the public highway, street furniture, highway structures, drainage, street trees and highway lighting in accordance with current Council policy and procedures.
- To submit defect reports as appropriate through a hand held and/or desk top data-base and to carry out and manage work instructions to the relevant service provider.
- To attend emergencies on behalf of the service, and coordinate any response by the division. Arrange for the issue of works orders to contractors in cases of emergency.
- Record and monitor illegal or unsafe work sites, structures, overhanging vegetation etc., and report to the appropriate manager, statutory authority, or enforcement group.
- To liaise with Statutory Utilities, and control entry into the service subways ensuring compliance with the HASAWA and associated 1. codes of practice for confined space entry, and undertake routine maintenance inspections of the service subways
- To carry out inspections of sites and contractors / service providers for compliance with Health and Safety at Work and contract specification. Instigate remedial action and record outcomes in line with quality management systems
- To provide written responses to and raise appropriate work instructions for service enquiries and requests received by Highways Division.
- To liaise with senior officers and provide inspection findings and recommendations for inclusion in detailed written responses to members, senior officer, members of the public and all stakeholder service enquiries.

Skills, experience and knowledge:

- Supervisory Accreditation under the New Roads & Streets Works Act 1991.
- Strong evidence of working in a Highways / Engineering field of service delivery
- 3. C&G 6033-03 Unit 311- Highway Safety Inspection
- Demonstrable and relevant experience of the New Roads & Street Works Act, the Highways Act and site supervision
- Relevant evidenced experience of defect monitoring, highway maintenance or highway project delivery
- Understanding of concepts, practices and principals of asset repair and maintenance
- Understanding of risk management and insurance claims procedures
- Of reading and interpreting site instructions, maps and drawings
- Of operating Microsoft office software including Word, Excel, Outlook and bespoke data base software

This is a full-time job, 40 hours/week, for an initial 3 month contract.

Payrate: Regular: £22.50/hour, Saturday: £33.75/hour, Sunday: £45.00/hour.
