The Sheiling Special Education Trust (SSET) comprises The Sheiling Ringwood which was established in 1951 and is an independent, day and residential school and college for approximately 70 young people aged 6-25 years with complex, moderate and severe learning difficulties. We are situated on a beautiful 40-acre woodland site on the Dorset/Hampshire border between the New Forest and Bournemouth beaches.

We are currently seeking a Trustee to join the Board of Trustees to complement the expertise already existing within our active and committed Board, preferably with some experience in one of the areas of finance, law, residential care, SEND education or business.

The post is a voluntary position and the Trustees of the Sheiling Special Education Trust are both charity trustees and company directors.

**Trustees focus on the three core functions of governance**:

- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and the strategic direction of The Sheiling Ringwood
- Holding leaders to account for the quality of the residential care, therapy input and educational performance of The Sheiling Ringwood and its students and the performance management of staff
- Overseeing and ensuring effective financial performance of The Sheiling Ringwood

**Ideally, you must**:

- Have a desire to play a part in improving our SEND provision via accountable, effective and ethical governance
- Be willing to build an open relationship with the students and staff and act as a critical friend to the Senior Management Team
- Be willing to give around 15-20 hours per term (circa 55 hours per year) to attend meetings, visit the site and attend training sessions
