The role of Teaching Assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils’ learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. Promoting self-belief, social inclusion and a high self-esteem play an integral part to pupils’ well-being.

Apprenticeship details: Working towards your Level 3 Teaching Assistant Qualification with the support of your work place mentor and your LMP Education Tutors. The apprenticeship is approx 16 months in duration and at a salary of £6 per hour.

**Bramley Oak Academy is a specialist school for boys aged 5-11 years with social, emotional and mental health needs. All pupils at Bramley Oak have an Educational Health Care Plan.**

**What will the apprentice be doing?**
- Support the teacher within the classroom and help students
- Work closely with teachers to ensure their own contribution aligns with the teaching
- Planning sessions and thinking about learning objectives for children with a variety of needs
- Deliver/lead small group teaching within clearly defined/planned parameters using initiative, sensitivity and understanding
- Raise standards of achievement for all pupils
- Encourage pupils to become more independent learners

What training will the apprentice take and what qualification will the apprentice get at the end?
- **Level 3 Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (Level 3 teaching assistant qualification) Typical Duration 14-16 months.**

- Increased mastery of the critical stages of child and adolescent development
- Enhance understanding of the types of influences that can affect this development
- Become fully adept in supporting teachers with the planning of activities, as well as creating own activity plans
- Evaluation of personal performance in relation to supporting literacy, numeracy, and ICT if required
- Amplify knowledge of safeguarding and emergency procedures
- Understand legislation with regard to confidentiality, data protection, and information sharing
- Functional skills if needed
