We are seeking a mixed methods researcher, with interest and experience in equality, diversity, and inclusion in cultural or heritage settings, to join our team on the Sensational Museum Link.
This multi-institution interdisciplinary research project aims to use what we know about disability to change how museums work for everyone. Funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, the project will rethink the role and place of the senses in the museum, so that no one sense is necessary or sufficient to work with or experience museum collections.
The focus of this role, based at the University of Westminster, is on interpretation and visitor experience. You will be involved in prototyping an inclusive, co-creation toolkit, and then piloting and evaluating this prototype with museum professionals and visitors across the UK. This will help museums to create inclusive interventions accessible to everyone.
The post-holder’s responsibilities will include research design, participant recruitment, development and facilitation of co-creation sessions, data gathering and analysis using empirically driven qualitative and quantitative methods, reporting on study progress internally and to external conferences, and writing up the results for publication and broader dissemination. You will be required to work closely with colleagues across the research team and project partners, and particularly with your research counterpart based in the University of Leicester.
The post-holder will have experience of working with or in the museum sector, heritage or inclusive design and experience of project management. They will be an empirical researcher, experienced in human participant data collection, and skilled in quantitative and/or qualitative research methods and data management. The project will involve advanced interdisciplinary conceptual and analytic thinking,
Applicants should have a PhD (or equivalent experience) in Museum Studies, Psychology or cognate discipline relevant to the project focus. Excellent communication, organisational and time-management skills are essential.
