**Building Regulations & Compliance Consultant**

**This role will be covering the Bristol, Bath & Wiltshire areas.**

To support our ambitious growth plans, we have a great opportunity to join our Building and Real Estate Division. We are looking for a Building Regulations & Compliance Consultant to join our recently established Building Regulations & Compliance Consultancy team, concentrating on projects involving in scope HRBs. This is a brilliant opportunity for someone looking to take the next step in their career, to be one of the first members of our team. Sitting within our consultancy service team, you will be able to bring your knowledge, experience, skills and understanding of technical delivery and compliance, to clients and design teams, from inception to completion.

Working across a variety of projects both autonomously and as part of a wider team, tasks you will be required to undertake as part of your role include (but are not limited to):

- Provide general project support to the consultancy team and clients, relating to the building regulations and associated legislation.
- Reviewing plans, drawings, reports, specifications, and other documents submitted for consultant approval and compliance and with the relevant legislation.
- Carry out inspections of buildings prior to, and during construction, to verify compliance with regulations related to (for example) public health, fire safety, energy conservation, sustainability, and building accessibility.
- Advise and assist applicants on meeting the legal requirements of the Building Regulations (procedural and technical) and the Building Safety Act.
- Attend project meetings remotely and in person and keep records of any actions required.
- Working with SOCOTEC’s existing client base, developing new services as markets evolve and change
- Organise project information and construction records.
- Proactive liaison with design teams to identify key design risk and hazards, coordinating with other designers.
- Facilitation of compliance and risk workshops for projects and working with individual designers to find suitable mitigation measures, or a reduction of those risks.
- Building and maintaining current client relationships and assisting to build new ones.
- Providing professional guidance and interpretation on legislation, including the roles and responsibilities for dutyholders and client teams under the Building Regulations.
- Provide support, mentoring and assist with training to other less experienced members of the team.
- Assist with the training and support to SOCOTEC Building and Real Estate teams, where required.
- Any other associated duties or tasks at the discretion of senior managers.

- A relevant bachelor’s degree Building Surveying, Architecture, Construction Management.
- Registered Building Inspector (desirable - we will support you with achieving this).
- Chartered membership of CABE, RICS, CIOB, or equivalent.
- Proficiency in Microsoft suite of programmes, general IT systems and databases.
- Strong organisational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Client facing skills, business development and diplomacy.
- Good understanding of construction related legislation and the legal framework behind building regulations
- Good knowledge of construction technology, technical design and architecture.
- High level of professional ethics and standards

Desirable:

- An overview of project management and construction procurement routes.
- An understanding of CDM procedures and associated legislation.
- Experience of working closely with clients, project managers, designers and construction teams.
- Strong understanding of fire safety and specific legislation associated with HRBs
- Experience within Building Control and/or construction.
