The Assistant Librarian will be based at our Porton site to provide a range of services, including document delivery, enquiries, acquisitions, administrative tasks, information skills training, and literature searching.

The post holder will be required to implement and adjust operational plans when the situation requires, particularly in response to urgent user requirements, in order to balance needs against available resources and to make recommendations to the senior team.

The post will provide a unique opportunity for a qualified professional or someone with equivalent level information and library knowledge and skills to gain experience in public health librarianship and information science at an exciting time in the development of Knowledge and Library Services (KLS) in UKHSA.

Porton Down office - Hybrid - minimum 3 days per week on site

**Job description**:
**Working Pattern - Full Time, Hybrid Working**

**Responsibilities section**:
As the Assistant Librarian your main responsibilities will include:

- Provide a document delivery service to both UKHSA staff and wider health library consortiums. Ensure UKHSA document delivery quality standards and requirements are met.
- Contribute to, and implement, KLS marketing and publicity strategies and activities, including leading on implementing marketing and promotion to specific user groups.
- Undertake literature searches using a wide range of public health information resources.
- Daily management of the library site and physical stock, including issuing books, shelving, undertaking renewals and managing overdue loans.
- Assist with the management and maintenance of the Library Management System, including data entry, reports, and library administration, managing loans and renewals, and the collection and maintenance of usage statistics relating to daily library activity.

**Essential Criteria**:
We are looking for an exceptional Assistant Librarian

**Essential**
- Experience in a health, research, or academic library or information service
- Knowledge of a range of health care resources, including experience in document delivery processes
- Experience of using library management systems, including a range of specific activity-based modules
- Understanding of copyright and other legislation relating to libraries
- Experience of working with a wide range of library users, at all levels
- Able to deliver user education in using information and evidence resources, including teaching and presentation skills

**Desirable**
- Skills in information retrieval from relevant sources including bibliographic databases, and online resources from a variety of platforms
