Due to significant success and a buoyant order book, both currently and confirmed in the coming 3-year period, we have multiple opportunities for skilled platers to join our team at our Wakefield manufacturing facility on a permanent basis.
As a plater at Green’s, a company which celebrated it’s 200-year anniversary in 2021, you’ll help to prepare steel or other metal plates and sections for the manufacture of items such as power station boilers, economisers, and pressure vessels for chemical plants and refineries. You may have experience in this line of work, or in something similar such as preparation of material for storage tanks for oil and other liquids, shipbuilding, or even in the production of structural steelwork for oil rigs, bridges, and buildings.
Ideally, you’ll have experience of various thicknesses of metal plate ranging from 5mm to over 100mm, including usage of:
- Cranes and hoists
- Heavy-duty guillotines to cut the plates
- Oxyacetylene flame cutters for curves and complex shapes
- Rollers and presses to curve and bend the plates
**Key Responsibilities**
- Reading and interpreting engineering drawings.
- Setup and operate machinery -typical machines include saw, prepping, guillotine/shear, press break, drill, iron worker.
- Material preparation, marking out of materials, cutting, burning, prepping, plating and general fabrication activities of structural and non-pressure parts and ancillary pressure part components (e.g. headers, pipework & attachments).
- Assembly and erection of products and components such as fabrications, headers, coils, bundles and modular fabrications.
- Complete non-pressure part welding activities.
- Raw material and processed goods movement around the factory and work area as required.
- Use of factory overhead cranes for material movements, loading and unloading vehicles.
- Ensure processed goods are inspected and meet the required quality standards and or requirements.
- Manage workload to suit production requirements.
- Notify supervisors of any errors, damages and or rejections. Arrange repair, rectify and or quarantine where appropriate.
- Keep work area and respective machines clean, tidy, organised, labelled and controlled.
- Participate in other general factory activities as reasonably requested.
- Actively manage and take pro-active approach to health and safety and environmental issues in all aspects (using our relevant manuals/training), in line with our core value ‘safety first’.
- Identify and recommend training requirements for yourself and others in line with our core value ‘inspire growth’.
**Person Specification**
- Apprentice trained with relevant skill qualification e.g., NVQ L3 in fabrication and welding, is essential.
- Experience with a similar product base, i.e. pressure vessels.
- Ability to tack weld fabricated parts together and being a coded TIG welder is highly advantageous.
- Ability to read and interpret technical engineering drawings is essential.
- Some mathematical ability.
- Good concentration skills for using machinery and equipment safely and accurately.
- Practical hand skills for using tools and equipment.
- Able to work without direct supervision, and as part of a team.
- Good attention to detail for working in accordance with quality standards.
- A sound understanding and respect for health and safety.
