Caretaker

Bloxham School is looking to appoint a Caretaker who will be responsible for a wide range of duties connected to the day to day running of the school.

**Duties will include**:

- Carrying out basic repairs and maintenance around the school premises and grounds.
- Managing access and security of the site, including evening security and locking up.
- Setting up and taking down furniture and equipment for school events and functions
- Carrying out parking patrols
- Ensuring the site is kept clean and tidy, this may include emergency cleaning.
- Working hours 14:00 - 22:30 Tuesday to Saturday, 40 hours per week.
- Promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
- Maintain a reliable and supportive presence onsite at all times, when on duty.
- Acting as an adult presence around the school site, acting as a fire marshal, reporting issues to the Operations & Logistics Manager.
- Supporting school events, such as House Dances, Founderstide, Open Days and New Pupils event, as appropriate.

**Essential Criteria**:

- Experience of caretaking duties
- Ability to use your own initiative.
- A good understanding of general maintenance
- Customer service skills
- Good physical fitness and manual dexterity
- Driving Licence
- Positive Attitude to use of authority
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of public safety and security
- Previous experience working for a large estate or school site
- Worked in a similar position
- Knowledge of safeguarding

**Start Date**: ASAP

**Accountable to**: Operations & Logistics Manager

**Working Hours**: 40 hours per week, Tues - Saturday 14:00 - 22:30

**Salary**: £23,900 per annum (includes school accommodation)

**Closing Date**:9:00am Friday 16th February 2024

The safeguarding responsibilities of the post include:
The post holder’s responsibility will include promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young persons for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/ he comes into contact. The post holder will be required to adhere to and ensure compliance with the School’s Child Protection Policy at all times. If, in the course of carrying out the duties of the post, the post holder becomes aware of any actual or potential risks to the safety or welfare of children in the School, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Designated Safeguarding Lead.

The post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. The School is therefore permitted to ask job applicants to declare all convictions and cautions on a self
- declaration form in advance of attending an interview (including those which are "spent" unless they are "protected" under the DBS filtering rules) in order to assess their suitability to work with children.
