Vacancy Description

West Berkshire Council requires a full-time Public Rights of Way Ranger to assist in the management of West Berkshire’s public rights of way. Reporting to the Public Rights of Way officer and working as part of a team of three, your duties will be to undertake practical maintenance work on the Council’s network of public rights of way. This work will comprise clearance of vegetation using Brushcutters, Polesaws, Hedgecutters, Pedestrian Flail Mowers and a ride-on mower. It will also entail the maintenance of the infrastructure which includes the installation and repair of signage, gates and minor surfacing works.

This is an outdoor-based job and will require strenuous physical work. Ideally you will have experience of some practical countryside work, the use of horticultural machinery and be able to deal in a tactful manner with landowners and members of the public but full training can be given.

A full driving license is required, which if you are aged 20 or younger, you must have held for at least 1 year. Ideally you will have experience of towing a trailer but training can be provided.
