This is a fixed term role until 08/12/23 with the potential to be extended / made permanent after 12 months.

An opportunity has arisen for a part-time (30 hrs/pw) band 5 Clinical Photographer / Medical Illustrator, to support the photography team in Glangwili General Hospital, Carmarthen, for an initial period of 12 months. We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated individual with excellent organisational, interpersonal and communication skills, who is able to demonstrate the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.

You will be required to undertake Medical Photography including Dermatology / Teledermatology, Ophthalmology (FFA), Ear Nose and Throat (ENT), General Surgery, Paediatric/child protection medical, bereavement and Orthopaedic photography and contribute to the Design Service to the Health Board.

The post holder will be expected to provide a range of photographic skills to aid in diagnostics, referral, clinical management and education, whilst working alongside a variety of multidisciplinary teams. These include use of specialist techniques such as teledermatology, ophthalmic imaging (FFA), as well as orthopaedic, surgical, bereavement and child protection photography, alongside producing high quality non-clinical corporate and commercial photographic service for the Health Board when required.

Manage own workload on a day-to-day basis to meet the demands of the service. Make value judgements on the correct photographs to record in any situation, taking into account customer requirements and a wide range of technical, legal and social issues.

Work within the Professional Code of Conduct of the Institute of Medical Illustrators and follow local policies and standard operating procedures.

Maintain an up to date CPD portfolio to satisfy the requirements of The Academy for Healthcare Science (AHCS) Accredited Register.

Demonstrate professional and patient management skills in the studio, clinic, wards and theatres involving tact and diplomacy to explain the need for clinical photographic records.

Undertake design projects for both internal and external digital publication or printing.

Communicate complex information to professionals and patients/carers, surrounding the use of clinical images; such as consent levels, confidentiality, distribution, copyright, security, data protection and Caldicott guidelines, always having an awareness of cultural and religious beliefs. This will include communicating with non-English speakers and those with learning disabilities.

Assist the Head of Photography in the forward planning, development and promotion of the service.

Potentially liaise with Social Services and Police regarding NAI, POVA and Child Protection photography/cases.

Undertake Health Board mandatory training.
