- An exciting opportunity to be part of our Conservation Ecology team.We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably qualified and experienced Ecologist to join our Conversation team at Essex Wildlife Trust.

As a Conservation Ecologist at Essex Wildlife Trust, the post holder will work closely with the Lead Reserves Ecologist and be responsible for gathering, analysing and communicating ecological evidence to inform conservation management and biodiversity gain on Essex Wildlife Trust nature reserves and across the Essex landscape.

Working within the Conservation Evidence team, the Conservation Ecologist’s work will be diverse and innovative. They will be collaborative in their approach and will work with and mentor/train staff and volunteers across the organisation to collect ecological data and inform evidence-based decision-making.

The use of GIS and other ecological data capture technology will be encouraged, where this will make a positive difference to the collection and communication of data.

A key part of the role will be to provide advice and guidance to nature reserve managers and rangers in the implementation of ecological evidence to inform site management, ensuring we get the best on-the-ground conservation results for habitats and species.

Across the wider Essex landscape, the Conservation Ecologist will work in partnership on targeted ecological projects and citizen science campaigns, as well as other initiatives that contribute to landscape-scale conservation targets.

This role is well suited to applicants who hold an Ecology/Nature Conservation degree (or equivalent) with experience in ecological monitoring, a practical working knowledge of survey methodologies for a range of habitats and species, the ability to analyse and communicate data and identification skills across a wide range of taxa, ideally including birds and plants. This role is a permanent full-time position with a starting salary of £26,475.12 per annum. Essex Wildlife Trust is currently trialling hybrid-working arrangements with a view to implementing a workplace policy in 2023. Further details of the hybrid-working arrangements will be shared at interview.
