**JOB TITLE**:Care Assistant
**Pay RATE**:
£10.42 per hour (There will opportunities to undertake some domiciliary care sessions at £12.07 per hour as and when required)
**MAIN PURPOSE OF POST**:
To lead on the daily provision of caring duties for older people, predominately those living with dementia/ Alzheimer’s and other mental health issues and provide general assistance in the day to day running of the Older People’s Centre.
**MAIN AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY**:
To provide general health and social care to older people within the Older People’s Centre and, as necessary, within the service users’ own home, assisting with their personal care, when needed.
To deliver Meals-On-Wheels and assist the Older People’s Services Coordinator in administration by collecting money from service users’, completing registers and other documentation, as and when required.
To transport service users’ to and from the Older People’s Centre, ensuring they are appropriately attired and their properties secured.
To carry out daily risk assessments, with regards to services users’ mobility and general wellbeing, to be reviewed on each visit to either the Older People’s Centre or within their own home.
To assist the Older People’s Services Coordinator by signposting service users’ to other appropriate support services and wellbeing activities that are available within the area.
To record and appropriately report any concerns regarding the welfare of service users’ and to refer any such safeguarding concerns, as and when required and in line with local authority guidelines.
To have a basic understanding of Food Safety requirements and the importance of documentation.
To assist in the preparation, cooking, serving and delivery of approximately 50 meals and refreshments to the service users’ on a daily basis.
To assist the Older People’s Services Coordinator with the shopping for food suppliers on a daily basis, which requires the delivery to the Older People’s Centre each morning.
To undertake a daily assessment of and carry out basic maintenance works at the Older People’s Centre, as and when required.
To assist and encourage service users’ to participate in social activities and day trip outings with other service users’, whilst maintaining both a friendly and professional manner.
To assist and encourage service users’ to participate in the daily craft activities and exercise groups.
To assist with the daily cleaning duties at the Older People’s Centre and Partnership vehicles, including: spot cleaning as necessary and periodic deep cleaning throughout the day.
To contribute in the daily decision making of the running of each day and work allocation of duties, completing entries in the Older People’s Centre hand-over diary.
To undertake training which enables staff to be competent in the moving and handling of Older People and the use of moving and handling equipment.
To prompt and encourage service users’ to take their prescribed medication as set out within Care Plans.
- **PERSON SPECIFICATION**_
**EXPERIENCE**
NVQ Level 2 Health & Social Care, or relevant experience of providing capacity building, person-centred support to older people (2 yrs. minimum)
A full and clean UK Drivers Licence (Preferable)
Experience of working within the care sector
Experience of working in partnership with other agencies
Experience in the preparation and cooking of meals
**KNOWLEDGE**
Understanding of the needs of older people, including those with mental health and dementia related issues
Understanding of the importance of working within agreed procedures and policies
Understanding of Health & Safety and implementing good practice
Understanding of the importance of confidentiality in the workplace
**SKILLS**
Ability to drive a minibus (Desirable not essential)
Ability to complete paperwork and basic numeracy skills
Ability to order and shop for food supplies
Ability to communicate in a friendly and professional manner
Ability to work with vulnerable people building their trust and confidence
Ability to work effectively in a team
Ability to assist in cleaning duties
Ability to provide personal care
