**Job summary**:
Finance is at the heart of decision making in the Department for Business & Trade. Following the Machinery of Government changes and the formation of the Department for Business and Trade, DBT’s Strategic Finance team is being expanded to build additional capacity and capability and the work of the department has never been more crucial.

The Strategic Finance team works across the department to understand delivery plans and the associated funding requirements, providing expert financial advice, analysis and assurance to the Permanent Secretary, His Majesty's Treasury (HMT), Ministers and Executive Boards.

Within the Strategic Finance team sits the Estimates and Analysis team. The team leads the Estimates Process, finance forecasting systems work, reporting and jointly leads workforce planning for the department.

This is a high-profile, diverse position focused on delivering DBT’s main and supplementary Estimate as well as supporting the departments in year reporting. It offers experience in stakeholder engagement, planning and budget management, as well as playing a key role in internal and HMT reporting process.

**Job description**:
Key responsibilities include:

- Lead the Main Estimate and Supplementary Estimate, drafting the Explanatory Memorandum and liaising with key stakeholders to ensure smooth approvals.
- Build relationships across the department to ensure effective and accurate management reports are produced on time.
- Confidently and credibly present financial information with recommendations to senior managers and decision-makers.
- Develop collaborative relationships with key stakeholders e.g. Finance Business Partners, HMT, Private Office’s.
- Analyse current processes to identify and implement ways to improve processes and budgetary control.
- Support the in-year reporting team with the month end process, ensuring an understanding of the departmental budget, forecasts and risks.
- Undertake scenario modelling and provide a range of options to inform departmental decisions.

- Strong communication skills to provide insightful reporting and clear briefing on issues to senior stakeholders.
- Strong leadership skills, especially when engaging and influencing colleagues on fnancial decisions.
- Ability to react to change and manage emerging priorities to tight deadlines, respond to varying situations in a professional manner.
- Self-starter who enjoys solving problems.

- Understanding of consolidated budgeting guidance.

- Understanding of Managing Public Money.
- A full or partial CCAB Qualification or equivalent - or equivalent experience.
