**Surgical First Assistant**

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated SFA to join our team.

The Post-Holder will be a registered practitioner and provide skilled assistance under the supervision of a consultant surgeon. You will also be expected to participate in the planning, delivery and evaluation of individualised patient care, working as a pro-active, effective and efficient member of the multidisciplinary team. The participation in the provision of teaching, assessment and development opportunities for other members of the surgical team is also expected.

**Main Objectives**:

- To provide skilled assistance under the direction and supervision of a consultant surgeon during surgery cases.
- To act as a theatre practitioner undertaking an advanced role within the theatre setting.
- To work as a pro-active effective member of the multidisciplinary team, by providing expert skills in the planning, delivery and evaluation of patient care.
- To participate in the provision of teaching, assessment and development opportunities for all members of the surgical teams.
- To undertake multidisciplinary roles required in department such as scrub/circulate/recovery or anaesthetic when not performing First Assistant functions.

**Clinical Activity**:
1. To act as first assistant during surgical procedures under the direction of a Consultant, by providing expert assistance within defined peri-operative protocols and scope of professional practice.

2. Undertake clinical procedures such as catheterisation, venepuncture and IV cannulation.

3. To facilitate the collaboration between nursing and other professionals to ensure a planned and co-ordinated approach to the delivery of healthcare.

4. To take part in the every day activities of the theatre environment if required.

**Education and Training**:
1. Participate in the orientation and continuing education of multidisciplinary junior staff both in a formal and informal manner.

2. To promote and continually develop the role of the advanced scrub practitioner.

**Requirements**:

- NMC Registered
- Qualification as Advanced Scrub Practitioner or SFA
- Evidence of personal and professional development
- Relevant theatre experience as a scrub practitioner.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritise and manage workload within the department.
- Continuing development within area of work

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: £45,000.00-£50,000.00 per year

Schedule:

- 10 hour shift
- 12 hour shift
- 8 hour shift
- Day shift
- Monday to Friday
