We’re looking for a Nature Based Solutions Officer to lead our work on implementing nature-based solutions for natural flood management and climate change impact resilience.

In this role, you’ll lead the development of natural flood management schemes. From concept to detailed design, you’ll provide technical expertise to bring forward schemes for delivery.

To be successful you will be motivated by the bigger picture, using innovative ways to utilise natural processes in combating the challenges of climate change.

**Responsibilities**

In this role, you'll own:

- Designing new Natural Flood Management schemes from concept to detailed design
- Creating detailed plans for a range of interventions that utilise the principle of optimising natural processes e.g. leaky woody dams, swales, bunds, wetland creation, off line water storage ponds
- Carrying out initial conceptual option assessment, topographic and other site investigations, scope and commission ecological surveys and bring forward schemes for delivery.
- Securing consent and permits for schemes - including Local Authority Planning Applications, Flood and Drainage Authority Ordinary Watercourse Consents and Environment Agency Flood Defence and Environmental Permits.
- Supporting management and maintenance of water environment infrastructure, providing guidance in respect of new installations.
- Presenting project details and technical information to colleagues and clients.
- Providing technical content for schedules of works, tender adverts and supervision of delivery contracts.
- Liaising with partners, contractors, government agencies, local authorities and suppliers.
- Supervising staff and site workers on active projects locations

**About you**

We’re looking for a passionate advocate for nature based solutions for climate and biodiversity

This role might be right for you if you have:

- Relevant geography-based qualifications, such as environmental sciences, hydrology, water engineering, environmental engineering.
- A strong understanding of the pressures on riverine systems, water resources and catchment management.
- A sound understanding of wetland & riparian hydrology and catchment management.
- A passion for driving the use of nature-based solutions to improve climate resilience and negate impacts of flooding and drought.
- Experience in CAD, or other water engineering and modelling software packages.
- Ability to produce designs that meet requirements for consenting and environmental permitting purposes.
- The skills to interpret complex information, and make it accessible and inspiring to a range of audiences.

This role will be based at our office in Middleton although a balance of home and office working will be allowed. We are a local charity so applicants should be easily able to access our office and other locations around the county.

Our Charity is growing, we currently employ 80 people and, crucially, we are supported by over 500 volunteers. We have three delivery teams; Wilder Landscapes, Wilder Communities and Income Generation, supported by the Finance and Resources team. Each team has a Department Lead who reports to the Chief Executive who is responsible for the operations of the Trust and who, in turn, reports to the Board of Trustees which governs the organisation.
