The File Handler Assistant will be assigned to work with a File Handler(s) within a team in an open plan environment.The role involves working on post litigated fraud cases on behalf of a wide range of Insurance clients. Whilst the Assistant will not haveownership of any of their own files, they will be responsible for carrying out individual file handling tasks on cases for and in support of the File Handler(s).
**Key Accountabilities**:
The work handled by the Assistant will be governed by the caseload of the File Handler that they are assigned to, these include:
Assisting the File Handler to follow the Court timetable to include drafting basic pleadings/court documents
- Procedural drafting
- Directions Questionnaires
- Disclosure
- Witness Evidence
- Listing Questionnaires
- Instructions to Counsel
- Costs Schedules
- Instructing experts - internal and/or external suppliers
Evidential Reviews and Assessments
- Liaising with policyholders and witnesses
- Proofing of key witnesses
- Working with counsel
- Carrying out detailed reviews of medical records and reports
- Carrying out detailed reviews of evidence in support of claims presented
Settlement negotiations
- Negotiation of third party costs in accordance with the CPR
Drafting of appropriate settlement documentation
Any other tasks as they arise during the course of assisting the File Handler to efficiently run their caseload
To ensure compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations
**Working Hours**
35 hours per week
Monday - Friday 9am - 5pm with 1 unpaid hour for lunch.
Primary location for this role is Parklands, Bolton office. This role is a hybrid working role so will be a mixture of working from home and in the office.
**Essential Skills and Attributes**:
- Established interest in law either through further education (e.g. LPC or ILEX) or experience within a process driven legal environment
- Experience of drafting court documents and understanding of processes
- Good telephone and communication skills with people at all levels inside and outside the business
- An ability to organise and prioritise tasks using initiative
- Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required
- An ability to analyse evidence
- Good Literacy and IT skills
- Good team worker with the flexibility to do what is required to get a result and ensure client service levels are met
- Ability to work effectively within the Keoghs Shared Behaviour framework

Ability to manage and prioritise own workload and investigation plans to retain ownership of tasks
