We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated Approved Clinical Coding Trainer with excellent communication skills to join our friendly clinical coding team. Reporting to the Head of Clinical Coding you will work alongside existing team leaders and auditor to deliver a comprehensive clinical coding training program to the whole team.

The Trust offers a flexible agile working policy allowing hybrid working between the office and home and flexibility of hours to allow staff to maintain a good work/life balance. Applications for a fully remote position would also be considered.

All applicants must be willing to maintain their skills by attendance on workshops and refresher training courses.

Applicants without the necessary training qualification may be considered for a Trainee Trainer role and will be supported to achieve the NHS Digital approved clinical coder trainer qualification. This role would be band 5 to progress to band 6 on qualification. Applicants for the trainee trainer role must hold the National Clinical Coding Qualification and have a minimum of two post qualification coding experience.

A flexible approach to work is essential, as you may be required to work on other sites and in other areas within the Trust. The role will combine onsite and home-based working.

You must be willing to maintain their skills by attendance on workshops and refresher training courses.

Reporting to the Head of Clinical Coding you will work alongside existing team leaders and auditor to deliver a comprehensive clinical coding training program.

Support the Head of Clinical Coding in identifying where the Clinical Coding Service
technologies or skills, working closely with the Clinical Coding Auditor and the
Clinical Coding Co-ordinator.
- Communicate with all levels of the Clinical Coding Department and staff from other

disciplines within the Trust, and external as required
- Represent the Clinical Coding services in relevant meetings as required.
- Demonstrate evidence of being able and willing to understand our Trust values.
- Produce, implement, maintain and review the annual clinical coding training and

programme to ensure that staff enhance and maintain their skills in line with national
guidelines.
- Plan and manage activities to deliver agreed work programmes relating to clinical

coding training within agreed timescales.
- Plan and manage own workload on a daily basis, working towards agreed objectives

and with autonomy of how they will be achieved.
- To work with the Clinical Coding Auditor and Clinical Coding Coordinator to agree

and act upon individual or team-wide areas of development
- Work with the Clinical Coding Coordinator and the Auditor to plan a training and

audit package for each clinical coder to ensure they are given the opportunity to code a variety of specialties and undertake regular reviews of this plan, making
amendments as necessary.
- Monitor requirements for clinical coding training, to support national initiatives and to

ensure that these requirements can be effectively met in the required timescales. In
particular, this may require changes in working practices in the Clinical Coding
Team. The post-holder will support the Head of Clinical Coding in managing such
change.
- Ensure a high level of professional skill is maintained by clinical coding staff and all

new coders receive basic training covering all aspects of ICD-10 and OPCS4
through the delivery of relevant Refresher and Standards course.
- Produce a Training Needs Analysis report for inclusion in the departmental strategy.
- Assess coder ability to code and make decisions based on the results, on the most

appropriate course of action and provide one-to-one feedback to clinical coders on
results of training assessments.
- Produce spreadsheet reports, particularly to analyse individual training results.
- Co-ordinate with external organisations Terminology and Classifications Delivery

Service, IHRIM, other Trusts, to provide comprehensive training to new coding staff
- In conjunction with Coding Auditor maintain a list of clinical coding queries,

monitoring those that have been sent to external agencies for further clarification.
- Investigate and respond to internal coding queries verifying with the Clinical Coding

Auditor and utilising external query mechanisms as necessary.
- Utilise the results of all external audits of the clinical coding to make decisions on the

future training needs of the team.
- Maintain a portfolio of evidence.
- Work closely with the Clinical Coding Co-ordinator and Auditor to establish and

implement improvement plans for the department.
- In conjunction with the Clinical Coding Co-ordinator and Clinical Coding Auditor the

post holder will contribute to and help implement Trust wide/departmental policies,
procedures and guidelines.
