Graduate Research Assistant - European Xenopus Resource Centre (EXRC)

The School of Biological Sciences is seeking to appoint a Research Assistant in the European Xenopus Resource Centre (EXRC).

The EXRC collects, makes and distributes the resources for biomedical research using the frog model throughout the world. This post contributes to animal welfare improvement in two areas: first by adding to a new frog colony based on embryos that have had their pathogen load reduced by a chemical “sterilization” process and second by storing frozen sperm of transgenic frog lines that are seldom used. The appointee will also help make new, genetically altered Xenopus lines and egg extracts for cell biology research. Applicants should be able to demonstrate competence at biochemical experiments and have experience of working with model organisms. They should be comfortable working with animals for research purposes. The successful applicant will be expected to integrate within the “culture of care” for animals that is a part of the University’s core values and will, in addition, need to be capable of highly accurate administration around the care and provision of Xenopus resources.
