**Purpose**

To be responsible for the provision, development and high quality delivery of intervention and support to those children and young people (aged 10 - 17) at risk of or involved in criminal exploitation, serious violence or any gang associated behaviour.

To manage a caseload of children and young people open to the Multi-Agency Gangs Panel (MAGPan) undertaking appropriate needs and risks assessments and implementing effective intervention support plans in liaison with the young person, their families and other professionals.

To operate as part of the multi-disciplinary Youth Partnership Service to work with statutory and voluntary sector partners in Luton to ensure access and opportunities that allow children and young people to achieve positive outcomes.

**Main duties and responsibilities**
Being responsible for managing a caseload of children and young people accepted by and open to the
Multi-Agency Gangs Panel (MAGPan).

Working as part of the multi-disciplinary Youth Partnership Service (YPS) you will be contributing towards delivery of activities and interventions that help children and young people build resilience to resist criminal exploitation and deter from gang related activities.

Maintaining a good level of knowledge and understanding of criminal exploitation and gang activity within the Luton area, attendance at MAGPan and complex strategy meeting and providing feeding back to all meetings.

Working with statutory and voluntary sector partners in Luton to ensure access and opportunities for the cases you manage and ensuring a pathway of intervention and activities is planned and available that allow children and young people to achieve positive outcomes.

Contributing towards activities within the wider YPS identifying interventions that are effective in reducing criminal exploitation, gang activity to reduce risk and develop protective factors.

Making appropriate onward referrals, signposting children and young people to support services with partner agencies and positive activities where appropriate, and identifying creative solutions to any barriers that may arise.

Sharing information with the wider service that supports the YPS meeting its statutory obligations to protect the public and safeguard connected young people that are involved with the service.

**Service Context**

The Youth Partnership Service is a multi-disciplinary team consisting of statutory youth justice, targeted youth support, contextual safeguarding, supported transition and edge of care services. Putting children first, our aim is to reduce the risk of child criminal exploitation, first time offending, re-offending, anti-social behaviour, reducing harm to children and young people and to protect the public from harm.

We also co-ordinate the response to criminal exploitation and serious violence in Luton through MAGPan and we are instrumental in co-ordinating community interventions and responses to protect our children from exploitation. In addition we work with high risk families where children and young people are at risk of entering the local authority care system or where children and young people in care are at risk of placement breakdown.

Our priorities going forward are to ensure Luton is a safe place to grow up, live and work in and to enable children and young people to make a positive contribution to their communities. Working together to empower, support and safeguard, the aim of our interventions at every level is to significantly improve the outcomes and opportunities for our children and young people in Luton.

**Knowledge, Skills and Experience**

Experience of working with children and young people involved in criminal exploitation, serious violence and gang associated behaviour - (Essential)

Experience of working with a high-risk client group presenting violent or challenging behaviour - (Essential)

Knowledge of delivering activities and interventions to target group of children involved/ or at risk of criminal exploitation, serious violence and gang associated behaviour - (Essential)

Knowledge of relevant legislation and policy relating to Criminal exploitation gangs and serious violence

Proven ability to embed equality issues with practice - (Essential)

Practical experience of youth participation - (Desirable)

Able to devise and implement individual intervention programmes for children and young people

Experience of completing assessments and plans and concise accurate recording - (Essential)

Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, in writing and face to face with a wide range of people in a variety of settings - (Essential)
