Cornish Lithium are seeking an enthusiastic and collaborative Assistant Archivist. This position will be based at the Lithium in Geothermal Waters (LiGW) site in Redruth, Cornwall.
Job Summary
Cornish Lithium runs a programme of digital capture and archival work to enhance our understanding of historic mining activity. The role will focus on handling the original physical documents from archival material and prepare them for digital capture. The work requires meticulous approach to handling delicate documents with due care and attention. There will also be opportunities to engage in outreach activities within the community on occasion. The role reports directly to the Digital Archivist.
As an Assistant Archivist your responsibilities will include:
- Handling archival material with due care and attention.
- Undertaking digital image capture duties as directed by the Digital Archivist
- Update and maintain Cornish Lithium’s catalogues.
- Retrieve and return archive material from storage ensuring organizational arrangements are maintained in good order.
- Become familiar with the variety of archive materials Cornish Lithium store and digitise.
- Become familiar with the digitization equipment employed by Cornish Lithium.
- Assisting with outreach activities where necessary.
- Ensuring the archive space is as a clean and tidy work area.

- Experience in a role where organisation and attention to detail are key
- Ability to work diligently on long project and maintain high standards throughout
- Basic knowledge of digital capture techniques
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work on own initiative, pro-active
- Strong competence in IT, particularly Microsoft Excel
- Right to work in the UK
- Valid UK Driving Licence
Desirable factors:
- An understanding of cataloguing protocols.
- Basic knowledge of database management, particularly Microsoft Access.
- Knowledge of SQL would be advantageous.

The role will be based at the Company’s Geothermal Waters Plant, United Road, Redruth, TR16 5HY. Annual leave comprises 25 days’ holiday per year pro rata, plus UK Bank Holidays.
