Service Care Solutions are looking for an Investigative Assistant to work within the Greater Manchester Police on a 12-month contract.
**Location**: West Didsbury
**Job role/responsibility**:
To assist in with the complex investigations held within the DCIU, including evidence gathering in the form of outside enquiries relevant to the investigation, to gather intelligence; assist in file preparation and submissions for use in court; utilise specialist knowledge and skills as required by the Unit.
- Conduct investigations, obtaining and reviewing all the necessary evidence such as statements, interviews, third party material.
- Assist others with the process of dealing with detained persons
- Work closely with victims and witnesses to keep them up-dated on crime status
- Use a range of GMP systems to conduct research, interrogate and up-date information
- Prepare reports, complete prosecution files, itemise witness lists and exhibits for court, HQ, PPU and other agencies, ensuring timeliness and quality of the information provided
- Ensure property procedures are followed, including the appropriate recording, labelling and storage
- To liaise and work in partnership with other agencies relevant to the investigation.
- Assist with the execution of warrants and undertaking searches
- Where necessary, attend court and give evidence if required.
- Comply with National Crime Recording Standard and minimum investigative requirements
- Always maintain the security and confidentiality of information.
- Provide specialist knowledge and skills as required by the unit (e.g., language skills; technical skills in relation to PC's / mobile phones; preparation of information relating to child abuse, domestic violence, and other potentially distressing crimes).
**Knowledge/Experience required**:
- we are ideally seeking experienced (fairly recently retired if poss) detectives or with previous IA experience, with previous experience of crime investigation procedures such as CPIA, Suspect interviewing, Exhibit management and Witness interview / statement taking.
- The post holder must have a thorough knowledge of the law, policy, and procedures to effectively carry out their role to reflect the professionalism of the individual and the organisation. Knowledge and understanding of National File standards to prepare case files.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate ideas and information effectively, both verbally and in writing, using language and a style of communication that is appropriate to the situation and the people being addressed.
- Postholder must be able to write and produce comprehensive letters and reports to a high standard use of language, comprehension, grammar, and punctuation are essential.
- The post holder will be required to lawfully exercise with professional judgement the 'designated powers' of an investigator as determined by the Police Reform Act 2002, and as authorised by the Chief Constable of Merseyside Police.
- Knowledge and experience (or ability to become competent) of using relevant Force IT, specifically Niche, Cybertech, Storm, Dems, PNC, Fotoware (not exhaustive).
