This role involves a combination of clinical and administrative duties and the postholder will assist Speech and Language Therapists in delivering a service within a range of settings including early years and mainstream schools. Strong communication skills are essential as you will be working with children who have speech and language needs as well as liaising with a range of education staff and parents.

**Your role would include**:

- Supporting the work of Speech and Language Therapists by providing regular and ongoing therapy to children, with support and supervision.
- Working alongside therapists in the delivery of parent/carer workshops
- Developing, preparing and maintaining therapy resources
- Provide some administrative support to therapists for their clinical work and for related activities such as prepare materials/resources and clinical spaces**We can offer you**:

You will receive support from a line manager and in house training. There is a strong ethos of clinical support and supervision within the team.

This role will develop your knowledge and skills working with children with communication difficulties and is valuable experience for anyone wishing to develop their career in this area.

Central London Community Healthcare (CLCH) is one of the largest community healthcare organisations in London and Hertfordshire, providing our services to diverse communities/boroughs in 11 London Boroughs - Barnet, Brent, Ealing, Hammersmith & Fulham, Harrow, Hounslow, Kensington and Chelsea, Merton, Richmond, Wandsworth, Westminster - and Hertfordshire.

To implement programmes of support to children and families under the direction of the Speech and Language Therapy line manager and team, to promote development of communication, language, speech skills for children and young people

To conduct health promotion activities and workshops independently, under the direction of the speech and language therapist e.g. play skills, story-telling.

To assist the speech and language therapist in assessments, taking observations of children’s communication skills e.g. social communication, play, attention, understanding, language and speech.

To contribute to clinical teams both multi disciplinary and uni disciplinary by discussing own and others input around families needs

To work closely with children, carers and families area with a focus on high need groups, advising the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist of areas of particular need or adaptation

To demonstrate empathy with children, carers, families and colleagues from linguistic and cultural minority groups ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist

To motivate children and families/carers with a focus on those from high need groups to engage in activities provided by the project

To negotiate the management of conflict across a range of situations

To deal with initial complaints sensitively report immediately to their line manager and /or the lead speech and language therapist

To form productive relationships with others, including those from high need groups who may be under stress and/or have challenging communication difficulties

To plan and deliver, under the supervision of the Specialist Speech and Language Therapist, programmes of education / therapy practice and health promotion for families

To provide advice to others regarding the development of early language and communication skills

To adapt practice to meet individual children’s and families circumstances, including due regard for cultural, religious and linguistic differences

To reflect on the needs of families from high need groups and to identify appropriate strategies to facilitate and enhance communicative effectiveness in settings such as nursery, school and other relevant settings

To negotiate with parents, carers, colleagues and others around the implementation of plans for communication activities for children and young people

To recognise potential breakdown and conflict when it occurs and seek advice and support to resolve

To ensure that children, families and carers are involved in the planning of appropriate activities wherever possible

To maintain sensitivity at all times to the emotional needs of children and their families/carers.
