The ultrasound service has an exciting opportunity for Sonographers to join our team, working across a variety of clinical areas within our busy ultrasound departments. We are a large ultrasound service covering three departments. Our team of sonographers undertake a wide variety of examinations that includes abdominal, gynaecology, obstetrics, vascular, MSK and head & neck.
The role will assist in the provision of diagnostic services in the Ultrasound Dept.
You will be a qualified staff member in the specialty of ultrasound, qualified to a level of at least PG CERT in one specific area of ultrasound e.g. general/obstetrics/vascular. You will be able to assess and plan your own workload of patients.
You will be able to work within department guidelines and protocols, seeking advice as and when is necessary and will be accountable for your own professional actions. You will be required to perform routine ultrasound examinations and provide a description of findings in a range of other patient conditions reporting to and supervised by site lead sonographer/clinical lead sonographers. You will be required to supervise support workers and trainees. You are required to work in unpredictable situations.
Midwives who have obtained the full obstetric ultrasound qualification are welcome to apply
- Undertake examinations in ultrasound, using established directorate and departmental guidelines, policies and procedures
- Select imaging modalities and techniques appropriate to the needs of the patient
- Compile a personal and professional portfolio in conjunction with the PDR process and undertake reflective practice
- Utilise the department CRIS and PACS system so as to maintain the electronic management of a patient throughout their time in the department and enter required data as specified in the department policy.
- Have a knowledge about and participate in the departmental Quality Assurance Programme and be involved in future developments
- Monitor the quality of own work and that of others in own area and alert manager to quality issues
- Be involved in the development and review of policies, protocols and guidelines in each designated area by cascading up-to-date knowledge learnt through the relevant professional bodies
