Commodity Buyer

**Your new role**

Hitachi Rail are recruiting for a **Commodity Buyer** to join our Direct Procurement team. As the **Commodity Buyer** you will support RFQ and Contract award process for Direct Materials in support of programmes and future bids, whilst supporting ongoing delivery (materials and services), and value creation from our existing commercial arrangements with its supply base.

Please note this is a 12-month fixed term contract.

Key role responsibilities include:

- Researching and identifying potential suppliers and maintaining a database of approved vendors.
- Negotiating prices with suppliers to secure best commercial position.
- Placing purchase orders and tracking delivery schedules to ensure timely receipt of goods.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to understand their procurement needs and requirements.
- Monitoring and evaluating supplier performance to ensure quality and compliance with company standards.
- Assisting in inventory management and maintaining accurate records of purchases and pricing.

**About you**
- Proven experience working in a purchasing or procurement role, preferably in manufacturing.
- Strong negotiation skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with suppliers.
- Proven ability to contribute to effective Supplier Relationship Management (SRM)
- Basic understanding of Supplier Delivery & Quality KPI’s, including effective communication to the supply base and management of future
- Good working knowledge of SAP including PO, Material Master, PIR, Contract management
- Proven ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Basic understanding of Contract law preferred but not essential
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
