In collaboration with the Education lead and Ward managers in the Emergency Department, take an active role in meeting the education and training needs of the staff. To help identify the educational needs of the staff within the Emergency Department and to assist in establishing a rolling programme of education To assess competency in delivering key clinical skills To ensure high standards of care in accordance with agreed policies, procedures, and standards. To ensure that staff are aware of the following statutory and mandatory policies and guidelines: Health and Safety at Work Manual Handling Fire Cardiac Arrest Equal Opportunities Display Screen Equipment Regulations Child protection Medical Devices Ensure that your personal clinical and managerial knowledge is regularly updated, developed and maintained at an expert practitioner level. To assist in the organisation of staff development, performance review and counselling for nursing staff as required.

To act as a mentor to colleagues, supporting and assisting them to provide high quality nursing care. To recognise the developmental needs of colleagues and provide an environment in which knowledge and skills can be developed in a supportive way, without compromising the safety and care of patients. Develop a learning environment, which meets the needs of pre and post registration students and staff members working within the Team. Co-ordinate the implementation of teaching programmes, including identification and assessment of learning objectives.

Ensure all new staff undertake a planned induction and orientation programme when joining the Team. Promote a professional, safe and happy environment conducive with high patient and staff morale achieved by leadership, personal example and direct involvement in the activities of the team. Support and enhance the continual quality initiative programme ensuring a quality first approach within the team Coordinate and lead in implementing change as a result of research and audit to improve the safety and quality of care of patients across the trust. Teach staff to perform all aspects of treatment and care against specified standards.

Attend meetings, in-service training programmes, conferences and courses as appropriate and share knowledge gained with colleagues. Act as a resource and a contact point for staff to encourage, support and facilitate clinical practice development. Participate in the development of relevant trust standards and guidelines and play a key role in their implementation. Undertake audit and literature reviews to support relevant changes to practice for patients with acute care needs Be responsible for developing and updating project plans to support change processes Present information relating to audit and changes processes at multidisciplinary forums within the Emergency Services Directorate and across the Trust Work with senior staff across the Directorate and patient safety team to implement relevant changes to clinical practice across the Trust.

Work with the organisational development team and other clinical educators to develop and implement teaching resources to improve the knowledge and skills of ward/department staff in caring for the acute patient. Develop competency based educational resources and deliver training/assess competency of delivering key clinical skills. Work with clinical nurse specialists and lead nurses to deliver relevant extended skills for nurses working within the acute assessment areas. Assist in the investigation of relevant clinical incidents to identify trends and develop action plans to improve practice.

Work clinically as band 6 in department when the clinical need is required due to operational demand.
