Polruan Ferry Driver

**JOB TITLE**: FERRY DRIVER

**MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB**: DRIVING THE PASSENGER FERRY AND ENSURING THE SAFETY OF PASSENGERS, VEHICLES AND CREW.

**MAIN TASKS AND DUTIES**:

- Responsibility for the safety of the vessel(s), passengers and fellow crew members at all times.
- Driving the passenger ferry on its scheduled route between Fowey and Polruan, mooring up and ad hoc driving duties.
- Meeting and greeting customers, directing passengers, taking fares and providing information/answering queries.
- Operating the late passenger ferry service outside of normal ferry operating hours.
- Liaising with the harbour authority and other marine services regarding shipping movements and river activity.
- Completing daily checks of ferry boats and domestic safety management records and reporting faults to the office
- Radioing in passenger numbers to the office when operating the MCA regulated ferries.
- Monitoring of the weather and tides to ensure that conditions are suitable for ferry operations.
- Daily checks of fuel levels and liaising with office staff to arrange diesel deliveries.
- Reporting of emergencies and environmental issues to the office and harbour authority.
- Protecting the safety and welfare of school children and college students travelling on the ferry at all times
- Attending safety drills from time to time outside of ferry operating hours.
- Ensuring all safety accidents/incidents are reported using the company’s reporting procedure.

**Job Types**: Full-time, Permanent

**Salary**: £11.20-£12.65 per hour
