Kelvinside Academy are currently looking for an experienced and reliable groundsperson to join our team.

**Groundsperson**

**Purpose of the role**:

- This position will be responsible for planning, monitoring and evaluating activities and undertaking grounds maintenance for the Academy. Required to work without direct supervision on routine tasks, e.g. pro-actively produce, manage and maintain the highest standards of playing surfaces, sports and any other facilities, operating machinery, over marking running tracks, general gardening and laboring duties. They must ensure that they maintain a safe and secure working environment at all times and report any concerns to their line manger immediately.

**Main Duties and Responsibilities**

**Operating and maintaining Vehicles, Mechanised Devices, or Equipment**
- Maintains the lawns and grounds, operating equipment for the upkeep including the tractor, lawn mowers and rollers and hedge trimmers.
- Maintain and repair tools, equipment, and structures such as buildings, fences, and benches, using hand and power tools.
- Prune and trim trees, shrubs, and hedges, using shears, pruners, or chain saws.
- Working with pesticides spraying the grounds and storing them effectively.
- Responsible for marking out of pitches, the running track and all athletics activities.
- Any other tasks deemed reasonable by the school
- When required help carry out duties for other departments within the school such as Inspire, PTA and the development manager.
- Responsible for maintenance of boys changing rooms and shower area, under the stand, ensuring it is kept in a clean and respectable condition.
- Any other duty or tasks as deemed reasonable by the school
- During the winter month’s it may be required on a few occasions to come in early in a Saturday morning to do a pitch inspection where there is potential for the surface to be frozen/waterlogged

**Organising, Planning, and Prioritizing Work/ Gathering Information**
- Maintain and manage all grounds activities to a consistently high standard
- Ensuring that the grounds are opened and prepared for different school/sporting activities.
- Ensure the lights are on in the all-weather sports pitches during the winter months within planning approval restrictions
- Provide proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, planters, and other grounds features.

**Health and Safety**

Maintain a thorough knowledge of all relevant legislation to ensure compliance and must attend formal training specifically:

- Health and safety
- Basic food hygiene
- COSHH
- Formal training in manual handling and risk assessment
- Pesticide storage and use training to ensure the safe handling and storage of pesticides and chemicals.
- Chain saw operation training
- A valid driving license is a requirement
- Ensure the safe correct use and security of all equipment
- Report all accidents, H&S Concerns
- Ensure correct PPE is worn & in good condition
- Check all equipment & tools are in good condition prior to using

**Person Specification**:

- Ability to work on own initiative.
- Flexible attitude to work, to reflect the changing requirements of the school
- Ability to work both independently and relate to people.
- Strong communicative skills.
- Ability to prioritise multiple tasks.
- Ability to liaise and work effectively with school staff, pupils and parents.
- Knowledge of using relevant machinery and equipment
- Knowledge of Health and Safety
- Excellent team player and be able to work jointly with the colleagues to ensure all responsibilities of the role are fulfilled.
- Have energy, drive, enthusiasm and a positive manner

**Qualifications**:

- An industry recognised qualification in sports surface maintenance and ground maintenance
- Health and Safety/Fire Qualifications for example NEBOSH
- Awareness of and commitment to the importance of Child protection and Safeguarding of your people.
- Be prepared to undergo training as requested

Applicants should be, or eligible to become, a PVG Scheme member.

Working hours: 7.30am - 3.30pm (Monday
- Friday) plus 4 hours on a Saturday morning.

**Salary**: Competitive Salary dependant on Qualifications and Experience.

Schedule:

- Every weekend
- Monday to Friday

Work Location: One location
