Defence Statistics Health is part of the Analysis Directorate within the Ministry of Defence (MOD). We provide analysis to support stakeholders across Defence. Outputs are often high profile, supporting policy initiatives and service delivery, attracting ministerial, parliamentary and public interest and, press scrutiny. Our aim is to support evidence-based decision making and accountability.

Through a combination of regular outputs and one-off analysis the Health team supports stakeholders who deliver healthcare services to the armed forces, including on operations worldwide; work with policy leads on the development and delivery of health and wellbeing policy and initiatives; and we provide analysis to understand the impact of health and safety for the whole of Defence. This includes the responsibility for the delivery of the gold standard dataset on Armed Forces deaths which supports the delivery of National and Official Statistics on Deaths, including responses to Parliamentary Questions and Freedom of Information Requests.

We are looking for an enthusiastic data clerk to join our friendly team and provide admin support across the branch.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

**Job description**:
The post will provide support to a number of teams within the Health branch with work that includes data entry from paper forms to an electronic database, digitising operational field hospital records, completing online data request forms, and clinically cause coding deaths, medical downgradings and discharges and employment classification for former serving personnel. Clinical coding is done in line with International Classification of Diseases version 10 (ICD-10) rules and protocols. Training will be provided.

The branch is based in Abbey wood North (Bristol). We support flexible working, wherever possible, and currently adopt a hybrid working pattern allowing for a mix of office and home working.

The successful applicant will:

- Convert written field hospital data from Iraq and Afghanistan into computerised records.
- Collate and clinically code military health information relating to medical downgrading and discharge; deaths in the serving and veteran’s population and employment classification for Veterans.
- Maintain coding standards in line with International Classification of Diseases version 10 (ICD-10 rules and protocols.
- Maintain deaths and medical discharge databases, ensuring all records are complete, accurate and entered within timescales.
- Maintenance and filing of medical documents.
- Work with the wider Health branch to support with administrative tasks.
