B.E.S.T Project was established in 2020. It is a 24-hour, semi-independent provision in West Sussex, offering accommodation with young person focused and trauma-informed support. Our service is designed to accommodate both male and female looked-after young people between the ages of 16 to 18. We specialise in building long-term and effective relationships with young people. Our provisions are based in Lancing and Goring-by-Sea.

**Our Aim**

Our aim is to provide a safe, stable and trauma-informed environment to support looked after young people in a semi-independent provision. We promote and aid recovery from trauma and the development of young people’s independence, all in preparation for adulthood. We aim to provide looked after young people with a positive and productive start to their adult lives, by affording them the same opportunities and independent life skills that every young person should be entitled to. When young people leave B.E.S.T Project, they feel confident in their ability to take responsibility for their own lives and leave care successfully.

**Job description**

We are recruiting to cover 16 hours and two sleep ins per week. This post is a job-share and overtime to cover sickness and annual leave will also be available.

The shifts are as follows:

- Tuesday Sleep (20:00 - 08:00)
- Wednesday (08:00 - 16:00)

Thursday (12:00 - 20:00) and Sleep (20:00 - 08:00).

*Hourly rate is £10:50 during the hours of 8am - 8pm, £81 for sleep-ins and £12 for weekends during the hours of 8am-8pm.

*Please note - weekend and sleep-in shifts are lone working. However, there is a Senior member of staff on call at all times for support, advice and guidance.

**Person Specification (Essential)**:
**Experience**:

- Experience of working within a care setting (1 year as a minimum);
- Experience of maintaining effective, professional working relationships with young people and services;
- Experience and knowledge of working with sensitive and confidential information.

Skills & Abilities
- Good verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills;
- Able to build positive and trusting relationships with young people, families and local services;
- Confidence in challenging behaviour and able to diffuse heightened situations.

Education and Training:

- Care Certificate as a minimum.

Knowledge:

- Good knowledge of the needs of looked after young people;
- Good knowledge of local services and how best to access them, and;
- Good knowledge of Developmental Trauma and the impact this has on children and young people;
- Good understanding of professional boundaries.

General:

- At least 22 years of age;
- A friendly, positive, empathetic, patient and non-judgmental attitude towards others and life in general;
- An excellent understanding of and commitment to safeguarding young people;
- Able to identify and resolve problems as they arise using established policies and procedures;
- Feel confident in lone working.

**Key Roles and Responsibilities**:

- Develop strong, positive and meaningful relationships with young people;
- Create individualised strength-based plans and deliver focused interventions (mentor sessions) based on the goals/needs of the young people;
- Encourage/support opportunities for education, training and employment;
- Prepare and support young people’s transitions to independence, including move on and post-18 planning;
- Create and maintain an environment that is safe, secure, clean and homely;
- Promote the core values, trauma-informed approach, aims and objectives of the project;
- Keeping accurate, timely and detailed records.
