Redruth, United Kingdom Cornwall Partnership NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly Foundation Trust is seeking an ACP registered Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist (Band 8a), for CAMHS West Locality (Penzance and Redruth).

We are seeking an individual passionate about psychoanalytic thinking and motivated to use their skills in supporting children, young people, and families, as well as colleagues within the CAMHS community. We are looking for a broad range of experiences and a capacity to deliver highly skilled, multi-layered assessments and intervention; for an individual who listens to the voice of the child and advocates for them.

The successful applicant will provide a range of specialist Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy interventions, including Short Term Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy (STPP), medium and long-term interventions, State of Mind Assessments, specialist observations, parent work, and inter-agency consultation. There may be potential to offer more intensive work (twice or thrice weekly sessions) where clinical need arises.

An outward looking countenance, active presence and thoughtful contribution to the life of the locality team will be an important part of this role. The successful applicant will support the work of the team through assessment, care co-ordination and duty rota. They will attend their locality Multi-disciplinary Team meetings and provide supervision to colleagues interested in psychoanalytic thinking.

To provide a highly specialised Child and Adolescent Psychotherapy service to children, adolescents, and their families with complex psychological problems, both directly and through advice and consultation to other professionals, whilst working autonomously within professional guidelines and to the relevant policies and procedures. The role will involve both direct psychotherapeutic work and indirect specialist support to the team, overall CAMHS service and other agencies. Supervision and support of the assessment and psychotherapy provided by other Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists and other clinical members of the team who provide psychologically based care and treatment, including Trainee and Assistant Child and Adolescent Psychotherapists is part of the role.

The post holder will be expected to work with complex psychological problems and distress and provide highly specialist individual, family and group assessment, formulations and intervention including Psychoanalytic State of Mind Assessment and specialist observations. It will be expected that the post holder will also provide regular supervision and consultation on client’s care to non-Child and Adolescent Psychotherapist colleagues, working autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
