Are you a dynamic nurse or AHP who is passionate about providing excellent care to patients with respiratory conditions? Are you looking for a new challenge within a fast moving and developing respiratory team? If so, this could be the job for you.

Due to maternity leave, a 12-month fixed term / secondment as a specialist respiratory practitioner within the team has arisen. This would be a fantastic opportunity for either a Band 6 healthcare professional looking to further develop their respiratory knowledge and experience or a Band 7 practitioner looking for a new challenge.

We are a multidisciplinary inpatient respiratory practitioner team consisting of nurses and a physiotherapist. Our aim is to deliver quality holistic care, support and education to respiratory patients during their acute hospital stay.

The post holder will be an experienced autonomous respiratory practitioner responsible for providing professional management of patients admitted with a variety of respiratory conditions, as part of the respiratory team. They will also support the trust to achieve the target required for the Best Practice Tariff for COPD. They will work in conjunction with the medical, AHP and nursing teams; to provide excellence inpatient care within this speciality field whilst maintaining effective and efficient use of resources.
- To identify respiratory patients requiring specialist respiratory practitioner input across the hospital.
- Be able to organise and manage own clinical caseload, with the ability to prioritise and delegate work accordingly.
- To work as an advanced practitioner who undertakes a comprehensive patient history and examination to diagnose and formulate a management plan.
- To undertake and co-ordinate implementation of management plans and ensure timely review, evaluation and adjustment of them.
- To be knowledgeable and possess skills in specialised respiratory equipment including non-invasive ventilation, continuous positive airways pressure, high flow nasal oxygen and oxygen therapy.
- To maintain excellent communication with all members of the MDT.
- To educate patients and caregivers on their respiratory condition and actively address health promotion.
- To contribute to team activity data collection and national audit data inputting.
- To line manage nurse associate practitioners within the team.
- To attend and actively participate in team meetings and other respiratory MDT meetings.
- To contribute to a learning culture within the team and facilitate interdisciplinary learning across respiratory medicine.
