**Description**

The HSE Officer is responsible for driving and advising on all matters relating to Health, Safety and Environmental support for the Manchester site. Improving EHS systems and procedures whilst ensuring compliance to corporate and legal requirements.

**IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL**:

- Advise on the development of safe systems of work, risk assessments and SOPs;
- Assist in the site preparations for regular HSE audits and inspections;
- Recording and investigating accidents, incidents and near misses in a timely manner, ensuring interim and corrective actions are put in place as well as communicating lessons learnt;
- Provision of advise on the prevention of accidents, environmental incidents and the practical implementation of the HSE strategy;
- Compiling regular statistics and reports;
- Coordinating the regular HSE meetings (Safety Meetings and Green Team);
- Carrying out HSE training (or sourcing training providers) as and when required;
- Undertake health and safety inductions for new starters;
- Contributing to the management of change in relation to changes to plant machinery and equipment;
- Control of contractors and visitors to site including Permit to Work, RAMs (risk assessment and method statements);
- Lead on the communication with external auditing bodies e.g. Health & Safety Executive and local authorities;
- Ensuring compliance with new and current UK Health and Safety legislation and Emerson company standards;
- Roll-out Emerson corporate EHS best management practices;
- Oversee stock levels of PPE and sign off on ordering requirements;
- Support the Health Surveillance program undertaken by Occupational Health;
- Provide support and advice to site First Aid and Fire personnel to ensure ongoing legal compliance;
- Support and coordinate the on site Mental Health First Aider team;
- Other responsibilities or tasks that are within the postholders’ skills and abilities, whenever reasonably instructed;
- Responsible for driving and improving safety culture across the organization.

**FOR THIS ROLE YOU WILL NEED**:

- Proven track record in a similar HSE role, ideally within a manufacturing environment;
- NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health or equivalent;
- IOSH Managing Safely (desirable);
- Strong technical knowledge;
- Competent with MS Office and other computer-based databases and programs to enable the use of Global Emerson tools and internal bespoke tools;
- Ability to work well under pressure and take on new challenges;
- Strong problem solving skills;
- Good analytical skills and the ability to think critically;
- Ability to coach, train and engage employees (e.g. inspire behavioural safety).
