We are offering a great basic salary of £20,270 On top of this, for all hours you work between 8pm and 6am Monday - Friday and any time on Saturday, you’ll get a shift bonus taking you to at least £14.65 per hour. For Sundays and Public Holidays, you’ll get around £19.02 per hour. When you move to the top of the band, you could be earning up to £20.01 per hour.
Averaged over the year, this means your salary could be up to £23,450 when you reach the top of the band.
Holiday entitlement starts at 27 days plus 8 bank holidays.
If you are successful at the shortlisting stage you will be invited to an assessment session which will look at your driving skills and your ability to lift and move patients.
Training is provided for the role and includes full driver training and a clinical training course that leads to an accredited qualification. It is fully paid and lasts 3 weeks.
**The Role**:
- Taking patients to and from their medical appointments and treating them with dignity.
- Moving and lifting patients who need help.
- Driving a long wheel-base vehicle with manual transmission.
- Shift Work. You’ll work a variety of shifts from 0600-midnight, both on your own and with a colleague.
- Full time role is 37.5 hours a week or a Bank agreement with 0 hours.
The Ambulance Care Assistant (ACA) role is a gateway into the Ambulance Service. People who join as an ACA can go on to be Team Leaders or Managers within their area or move to work in the frontline teams or one of the many support and corporate teams.

South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust provides a range of emergency, urgent care and non-emergency healthcare services, along with commercial logistics services.
The Trust delivers most of these services to the populations of Berkshire, Buckinghamshire, Hampshire and Oxfordshire as well as non-emergency patient transport services in Surrey and Sussex.
We serve a population of over 7 million and answer over 500,000 urgent calls a year. We employ 4,551 staff who, together with over 1,100 volunteers, enable us to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
**MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**:
- The Ambulance Care Assistant will be expected to plan their journeys, taking into account patient appointment timings along with the routes that they should take to ensure an efficient and effective service.
- The Ambulance Care Assistant is required to undertake daily vehicle checks to ensure that the ambulance vehicle is roadworthy these checks shall include for example. Oil, Water, Fuel, Tyre Pressure and Tyre Tread condition, Lights, Warning Devices etc. any defect to be reported using “vehicle defect book” and record on any computerised system as required in accordance with Polices and Procedures.
- To carry out vehicle equipment checks and restock as required at the start of duty in accordance with Trust Policy and Procedures, ensuring that the ambulance vehicle is properly kitted, cleaned (paying particular attention to infection control) and stocked, faults and omissions reported and all appropriate recording procedures completed.
- To operate any communication system supplied/fitted/ operated by the Trust in accordance with its Policies and Procedures.
- To administer “ambulance nursing” to an appropriate skill level in accordance with training received. This willnotinclude the administration of Oxygen or related therapies outside of the skill set for this role.
- To use the “Moving Patient” equipment provided: this will include the use of all types of carrying equipment such as chairs, stretcher, lifting aids etc. This will require the post holder to risk assess the best way to undertake the moving of patients taking into consideration their needs, both medical and cultural and to follow Health and Safety and other appropriate protocols and procedures.
