**About the Trust**

We have a unique opportunity to learn on the job at **_Alexandra Hospital, Redditch, B987UB, Worcestershire_**. **_Depending on your skills and experience, you will join either a 3-month or 6-month paid supervised placement programme._**

Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust provides a wide range of hospital-based and community services across Worcestershire with specialist services. The Alexandra Hospital in Redditch was opened in 1985. It serves a population of approximately 200,000 and has over 300 beds. The hospital is the major centre for the county’s urology service. The hospital has eight operating theatres, MRI and CT scanners and cancer unit status for breast, lung, urology, gynaecology and colorectal cancers.

There is a multi-disciplinary education centre with library, teaching and study areas.

**What the programme involves**

During our programme you will work through the 15 Standards of the Care Certificate, learning how to meet the daily living needs of your patients as well as being a part of the NHS healthcare team. This includes supporting registered Nurses and other healthcare practitioners in providing patient care, from hygiene to personal and physical comfort.

Main Responsibilities
**Typical duties will involve but not limited to**:

- Carry out clinical procedures/tasks as required.
- Clinical tasks will be determined by the nature of your work and local policy e.g. monitoring the effects of medication.
- Obtain and test samples and other specimens
- Clearing and re-stocking consulting rooms
- Contribute to discharge process
- Care of wounds
- Check pain levels and requesting pain relieving medication on patient’s behalf
- Assist in preparing for clinical procedures and clearing the environment afterwards as appropriate

**Who we are looking for **_ _**

We are looking for someone who has a passion for care as well as following the six enduring values that underpin ‘compassion in practice’. The 6Cs are defined as: Care, Compassion, Competence, Communication, Courage, and Commitment.

**Please note that we require**:

- You must be **over the age of 18** or turning 18 before the planned classroom training week.
- You work at least 30 hours a week across earlies, late's and nights during the programme. This is a total of**_ 390 hours over 3 months’ or ‘780 hours over 6 months’_**

**What’s next?**
- **Attendance of Assessment Day** - Planned for **_6TH June 2023_**:

- **Attendance of FREE classroom training** - Planned for **_10th - 12th July 2023_**:

- **Attend an Induction week **(37.5 hours supervised placement) - Planned for **_July 2023._**

**After the programme**

Once you have completed your placement and the Care Certificate 15 Standards, you can work as a HCSW or HCA for the Trust at any of their locations, and at any of our NHS Professionals partner Trusts, through the bank.
