Creative all rounder required to join our small busy team.
Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust require a junior graphic designer who will become part of the Design, Photography & Reprographics Team, working on both the University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Woolwich sites.
The Department provides a comprehensive design, illustrative, photographic, video and printing service to the Trust as well as to external agencies.
We design and produce all types of media for use in marketing, teaching, research or publication. We work with all clinical specialties throughout the Trust and have close links with the Communications Department.
As well as design, we provide a wide range of clinical and non-clinical photography, including PR photography and video services to all specialties throughout the Trust.
Applicants must be versatile as the job can cover anything from layouts of forms or drug charts to creating and developing public health campaigns. A good knowledge of photographic and video processes is desirable. Familiarity with image database systems would be advantageous.
You will have significant relevant post qualification experience. Although you will be working under the supervision of the Senior Graphic Designer, you will need to be able to demonstrate the ability to work without supervision and will need to have the following:
BA Hons in Graphic Design with photography experience, or
HND with relevant experience
- Excellent skills working with Adobe Creative Suite
- Knowledge of Microsoft packages
- Knowledge of video editing software (Adobe Premiere)
- Excellent communication skills
We provide services for more than one million local people across south east London at University Hospital Lewisham and Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Woolwich.
We also provide adult and children’s community services in the borough of Lewisham, and some services at Queen Mary’s hospital in Sidcup. **Job Summary**:
The junior graphic designer is accountable to the manager of the Design & Photography Department although daily supervision will be the responsibility of the Senior Graphic Designer. The department exists to provide a comprehensive graphic design, illustrative, photographic and printing service to the Trust as well as external agencies.
**Key Result Areas & Performance**:
To undertake the design, layout and production of all types of media used for marketing, teaching, research or publication.
To produce a wide range of statistical illustrations from data or roughs supplied including charts, graphs and pie charts or any other appropriate means of presentation.
To produce an extensive range of print ready artwork including business stationary, forms, brochures and leaflets, booklets, posters and patient information material. This list is not exhaustive and any reasonable design request form our clients will be considered.
To produce computer generated artwork from slides and files supplied, from clients’ instructions or to an original design.
To undertake the design and oversee the printing of large format posters and to outsource these posters to be encapsulated.
To liaise with print agencies to obtain accurate quotes for customers when work is to be outsourced for print. At all times the post holder should ensure the highest standard of finishing is obtained in accordance with the clients budget.
To observe the requirements of each individual item of work with regard to quality, quantity and date required and to consult with senior colleagues as necessary to ensure the timely completion of the work.
To undertake the finishing of all work undertaken by the department. This may include trimming, mounting, laminating, binding and encapsulating. This list is not exhaustive and any reasonable finishing request from our clients will be considered.
To undertake clinical and non-clinical photography and to assist the department photographer where necessary. Whilst undertaking clinical photography and handling any patient information staff must at all times observe the strict confidentiality protocols of the Trust. There will be times when the post holder is expected to photograph, or assist in the photography, of both male and female patients often with little or no clothing on. At all times the dignity of the patient must be respected and the post holder must adopt a professional attitude.
To ensure all patient photography is logged on the department database and all pictures are stored in line with the department’s standard operating procedures.
