As a Learning and Pastoral Care Worker the post holder will provide excellent training support, and pastoral care to Apprentices on programme; to support the current and future workforce in delivering the best care for our patients. The post holder will achieve this by building relationships, and trust, to facilitate support to Apprentices colleagues requiring assistance.
The post holder will report to the Apprentice Lead on any interventions undertaken with Apprentices, and track progress of Apprentices, monitoring Apprentices, and providing easy to understand reports on interventions and the progress of all Apprentices that are engaged with, against agreed timescales and objectives.
The post holder will act as a positive role model to enhance the Apprentices experience and develop and support the learning for new Apprentices. Additionally ensuring a safe environment learning environment, which promotes equality and sensitivity for all individuals.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Work closely with new Apprentices, employed by NUH; to provide educational and pastoral support based on need.
2. Engaging in face to face meetings, to ensure progress and positive wellbeing for all Apprentices.
3. Act as a link between the Apprentice and their training provider, and their line manager. Offering support to all to resolve any issues that arise. With the aim of every Apprentice who starts a programme being successful in completing the programme.
4. Support recruitment activities and induction programmes in partnership with the Widening Participation Team.
5. Complete and maintain essential skills and competencies and undertake continual professional development.
6. Observe, maintain contemporaneous and appropriate records, and provide feedback information to the Apprentice Lead on the progress of Apprentices on programme, employed by NUH.
7. Co-ordination and provision pastoral support across the organisation.
This will include:
- Provide monthly summaries and analysis of pastoral activity to the Apprentice Lead.
- Provide 1:1 or group support to enable the development of skills which will help Apprentices to achieve their full potential.
8. Liaise with other teams, divisions and line managers, in order to ensure the service provided to our new Apprentices is comprehensive and tailored to their individual need.
9. Provide support and mentoring to new Apprentices of the Trust
10. Escalate concerns regarding performance or development to the Apprentice Lead.
11. Participate in ‘debrief’ opportunities to support individual health, wellbeing and personal development.
12. Support the Apprentice Lead with the development of the service and provide evaluation for where improvements can made.
