**Job Purpose**:
Valuation Methodology is a specialist team within VCG, and one which is crucial and highly influential. The team focuses on a wide-ranging and evolving scope of initiatives, from known valuation and governance issues to areas of changing and emerging market practice. The team investigates these issues, provides thought-leadership to senior management on their resolution, and provides specific, practical and implementable advice on how to address them.
The individual in this role will be required to maintain and enhance the firms Pricing and Price Verification Policy, Standards and Procedures that support the valuation control environment. This will involve the creation of new controls and the drafting of formal governance documents, so senior-level experience of these disciplines is essential. The individual will be required to implement new techniques and controls, in particular through the use of digital tools.
The individual will be interacting with Senior Management within Finance, Front Office and Risk Management and will support the development of a strong valuation control framework across all areas of price verification, valuation adjustments, valuation uncertainty and wider governance aspects.
The individual will also work closely with Valuation Reporting, Governance Policy and Controls, and Finance Policy Managers to ensure there is a consistent approach to Governance.
This is a position for an experienced, dynamic, technically-strong executive, who can manage all aspects of the role.
**Job Background/context**:
The Valuation Control Group (VCG) is organized into product-aligned teams dedicated to Independent Price Verification (IPV) and an overarching Valuation Methodology team, in place to ensure that the Firm’s valuation techniques are appropriate for fair value accounting purposes. The product scope is comprehensive and includes a full range of security and derivative products.
The key responsibilities of the group are to perform the independent price verification for traded inventory, review the appropriateness of valuation adjustments and provide input into new trade reviews.
There will be regular interaction with a wide variety of other functions within Markets and Banking globally and within the Global Product Control organization.
**Key Responsibilities**:
People Management and Leadership
- Ability to work across teams & silos, and to leverage existing relationships
- Will lead initiatives, and develop and propose solutions to complex technical challenges or control issues
- Active role as part of the broader regional and global product control team
Governance
- Assist in developing and drafting formal policies, technical papers and governance documents, and overseeing their implementation
- Enhancement and effective management of the VCG control and governance framework
- Take a leading role in the management and delivery of senior governance meetings, in particular Citi’s Price Verification Consistency Council, and Accounting and Valuation Forum.
Flexibility & Adaptability:
- The priorities of this individual will be set by Head of Valuation Methodology Policy, and this individual will be expected to manage those priorities appropriately. There will be crucial deadlines that will need to be achieved.
- Adaptability to changing circumstances is crucial, as the prioritization of responsibilities will need to evolve with changing circumstances.
Regulatory
- Experience of managing regulatory and audit deliverables from a control & governance perspective is vital
Control Framework

- Tracking progress of key projects against deadlines, including regulatory and audit actions
- Independent challenge of first line valuation approaches and the design of effective second line controls.
